Join the Academy of Model Aeronautics Foundation in celebrating model aviation for the fifth annual National Model Aviation Day, August 12, 2017. National Model Aviation Day was created to encourage clubs to celebrate the hobby and share it with the public. Our chartered clubs have also been asked to conduct a fundraiser to provide assistance to a worthy cause.
For this year all clubs have been asked to support the AMA Foundation. The AMA is devoted to inspiring the young and young-at-heart to pursue a hobby that will inspire creativity and advanced learning through the use of hands-on applications. The purposes of the Foundation will be to fundraise and make grants to AMA to support its charitable and educational programs and services.
The AMA Foundation is a supporting organization of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). The AMA was founded in 1936 and is the world’s largest model aviation association, representing a membership of more than 185,000 from every walk of life, income level and age group. National Model Aviation Day was created to celebrate the model aviation hobby nation-wide and to introduce model flying to the public.
Last year not only did more than 235 registered clubs work together to raise $92,000, but the event garnered a great amount of attention for the hobby. Many clubs were featured on their local news, in local newspapers, and several clubs went the extra mile to work with their state government to receive a state proclamation for the date.
This year’s event will be even bigger! All of our chartered clubs (approximately 2,400) have been invited to participate by holding model aviation events/fundraisers in their communities and to share the fun of model flying with everyone in attendance.
