When many of us were younger we had collections of the smaller “matchbox” cars which were interesting but they did not move around unless you pushed them. Well now with the advancements in micro electronics wizardry, Hobbico has come out with a new and exciting product, the Microsizers.

The new Microsizers are small and fit easily in the palm of your hand at a little over 2 inches in size. They currently are available in 12 different body designs of varying colors. The R/C Microsizer web site has a special “showroom” setup to view all the current models & accessories! How cool is that!

R/C Microsizers – 6 step assembly

Out of the box the Microsizers contains instructions, game cubes/props, hop up/accessory pamphlet, transmitter (with built in charger), car body, chassis, gear, motor, rear wheels and tires. The only thing you need are 2 AA batteries.

To assembly the Microsizer takes about a minute or two only. First slip the tires on the wheels. Next the heat sink (which is also the motor cover) slides onto the chassis. Then the small motor is dropped into place & the cover closed onto it. Next you slip on the small orange idle gear and snap in the rear axle. To finish it up you snap the body onto the chassis.

The transmitter, which also acts as a fast charger, requires 2 AA batteries (not included). To charge the vehicle it is snapped onto the side of the transmitter onto a “docking” station and a red charge LED light comes on for 45 seconds while it charges the car. The car comes with a built in Ni-Cd battery which is rechargeable.

When the car is fully assembled you pull out the antenna from the transmitter to fully extend it, turn the switch on, charge the car and your ready to race! The left button controls forward and backward motion while the right controls turning. There is an on-off switch on the transmitter which must be on while charging & racing.

Another neat feature is on the back of the transmitter which has a wheel where you can roll up the antenna so it retracts safely back into its housing. Last you can setup the included props which you can use to race around or to crash into.

Hobbico also sells hop ups for the Microsizers which include faster motors, You can get a speed set which includes a 2.6 motor, hard ribbed tires and faster gear ratio. Also available are tire sets and suspension tune up sets. All these options for these tiny cars are really cool for those who take their micro racing serious and want to win!

Racing!

In the picture to the left you can see the R/C Microsizers line up and are ready to race. They move out at a brisk pace for their size and steering is all or none to the right, center or left.

Pressing the steering button will cause the car to turn in that direction and releasing it will bring it back to center. The Microsizers also have forward and reverse which can get you out of a jam. I was also able to make mine spin out which was pretty cool.

The battery lasts for a 2-3 minutes on a charge and the range is about 10 feet. It comes on either the 49mhz or 27mhz frequency so you can race against another microsizer. Here are some videos I took playing around with them in my kitchen.

FINAL REVIEW & THOUGHTS

Hobbico’s new Microsizers offer both children and grown ups lots of racing fun in a tiny little package. I had my 4 year old son playing around with these all day long since I put them together. Although it is recommended for ages 8 and up I feel even younger ages would enjoy these Microsizers with supervision. Children under 3 should of course be watched as the cars contain small parts.

They make a great holiday gift and are available just in time for this holiday season. I could not keep them a secret from my son so one of his gifts came a bit early this year. With all the styles available and new ones coming out they make great collectibles. You can put them in your pocket and take them with you just about anywhere.

Hobbico has also put together a very interesting & fun web site dedicated to these tiny little RC racers at www.microsizers.com. They have a showroom, list of hop up parts in their speed shop, a question and answer area and lot more fun stuff so check it out.
