Fail Safe

Fiberglass cloth is exactly as the name describes. Fine fibers of glass are spun from molten glass marbles, gathered into yarn and woven into a strong, supple glass fabric.

An acrobatic maneuver performed at the end of a flight.

The Figure 9 is performed by pulling back (for an inside Figure 9) as if performing a loop, except that on the downside, the loop is opened up enough to run out of altitude prior to reaching level flight.

Flutter
Also known as "Harmonic Ressonance". Phenomenon that happens when the natural vibration frequencies of two or more components add to one another, causing a continous increase in vibration amplitude, which could destroy an airframe.

The most common type of flutter found on R/C aircraft is Control Surface Flutter, which usually generates a flapping sound and can cause damage to a servo quickly. Flutter problems can be correted by changing any parameter of the frequency equation and it could be as easy as decreasing flight speed, or if a permanent solution is desired by changing the control linkage mechanism.

Fowler Flap
Trademark name of a split-flap attached to a wing through a system of tracks and rollers to roll the flap backward and downward, increasing the wing area.

Frequency Board
A system used for multiple Pilots to determine what Frequencies are in use within his or her flying area. Each Pilots Radio frequency will be announced or posted in a designated area to let other Pilots know what frequencies are in use to prevent Radio interference between Radio systems.

Funky Chicken
When a out of control helicopter (typically as a result of crashing) violently flops and spins on the ground at or near full throttle.

Funnel Maneuver
Performed with the skids facing outside the imaginary funnel or cone, the helicopter revolves in an imaginary tornado-like funnel approximately 20-30 degrees off of vertical.
