WordDefinition
Rainbow Maneuver
This maneuver is essentially a "flip" of the heli on its back and visa versa except that the flip is over a length sufficient to make a rainbow shape as the helicopter proceeds from hover to inverted hover at the other end of the "rainbow"

Re-kitted (slang)
When an airplane is seriously damaged or destroyed. Building a kit converts parts into an aircraft. Re-kitting converts a built aircraft back into parts!

Receiver
An electronic device designed to receive radio transmissions from the transmitter and translate the commands into servo movements or electronic signals for electronic speed controls, gyros and other electronic equipment connected to the receiver.

Reed
A type of early RC system that provided non-proportional control via the transmission of various tones. Tones were selected at the transmitter using a number of self-centering toggle switches. The receiver decoded the tones by the sympathetic vibration of metalic reeds which in turn supplied DC signals to the servos.

The number of reed "channels" corresponded to the number of tones available in a given system and were generally twice the number of control functions. A ten channel system was usually arranged to provide aileron, elevator, and rudder controls in their extreme values plus centering and motor and elevator trim controls in a non-centering fashion. This example results in the use of three centering plus two non-centering servos and gives rise to the RC slang expression "Full House".

Rib (wing)
A wing component that generally defines the airfoil shape of the wing. In traditional model planes, the ribs are usually cut from balsa wood and they stand vertically in the wing, running from the leading to the trailing edge of the wing. From the side, a rib bears the airfoil shape of the wing. Many modern wing wings do not use ribs and the wing shape is defind by a wing core or by molded skins.

Rich Mixture
This refers to the air/fuel mixture on an internal combustion engine. A "rich" mixture means that there is not enough air compared to the amount of fuel entering the combustion chamber. This condition can lead to hydro lock.

Right Thrust
This is the rightward angle of your engine, to the planes centreline (tail to nose) axis. A thrust angle of 2 degrees means that your engine will be pointing 2 degrees to the right of the centreline.

Roll Axis
Roll movement on any aircraft is the rotation of the aircraft along it's fuselage (body). Imagine a rod thrust through the fuselage from the propeller to the tail. Rotation about that rod is a roll.

Rotation of an object about it's longitudinal axis.

Rollout
Rollout is how far a car will travel with one revolution of the engine. Often referred to as a rollout ratio. A larger number indicates a faster top speed/less torque and a smaller number indicates slower top speed/more torque. This number is important when changing to different diameter tires.

Formula: Rollout = ( Tire Diameter * pi ) / Final Drive Gear Ratio pi is 3.141592654

Rotor Blade
The rotating wings that are found atop a helicopter. The rotor blades swing, generating lift in the process. The blades perform the same function as an airplane wing (they provide lift).
