Default Cox TD RC 050 pricing

Well, I guess that I was wrong after all and $300+ for those engines is not that uncommon. The last one one just went through eBay for $325. Below is what I had posted in an urelated thread.

Bernie

The $360 one was a fluke - did watch that auction.

I bought one for $150about a month ago and a customer of mine won one on eBay around the sametime for $180, item # 140467173346

Of course brand new in OEM box.

Again, pricing is only so high because there are not many available. If they were readily available, sub $100 pricing would be the norm.

For my first dozen .049 Surestart Die Cast engines I got between $50 and $60 on eBay. Once my dear competition figured it out and the marked became saturated, pricing dropped to $9.95. Even today, the same engine can be had for sub $20.

It's called supply and demand

I was watching that auction also. Seems prices on stuff like this before Xmas are inflated on feebay. If I had these to sell I would start the auction on Dec 10 and let the bidding begin

I honestly don't think that the Xmas holiday plays a big role. In fact i have gotten my best deals on engines at this time because a lot of potential bidders pockets are not as deep this time of year because of Xmas. I just feel fortunate theres people like Bernie that offer very realistic pricing on his cox items. I ordered a couple times from Xenalook in the last 2 weeks and ready to order again.

A couple of years ago I bought a TD 05RC NIB with all the paperwork for $132.00. On one hand I convinced myself that was a reasonable premium to pay for an item that had sold for $98 at a Hobby Shop 15 years ago. On the other hand I felt like a guy with rocks in my head for spending that much money for Cox 1/2A engine!! Well, it looks like time and the scarecity factor bailed me out and it turned to be a great return (on paper) investment, that's better than most anything you can find today...
Dittos about Bernie at Xenalook !!!! I bought one of the new Sure Start throttle assemblies yesterday and he had shipped it in about two hours...Looking forward to a great new Christmas toy for only $14.95 !!!

Ebay is hardly the best place to look for prices unless you look at a lot of same item sales and figure on the average value.  On stuff that only comes by occasionally the price really depends on who wants it and how bad.  If two similarly stubborn sorts want the item NOW instead of waiting for the next one it drives the price up beyond all reason.  And it gives the rest of us a warped idea of the value.  Meanwhile one may come up for sale and only one person wants it so the price is a third to half of what the really high priced one went for.

Ebay is a seller's market, hot deals are few and far between in my experience.

Well,

I guess if Cox TD 050 RC's are pulling $300+ and Venoms commanding over $400 then item # 150536469059 on eBay

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

must be a bargain at $500.

On no, the product is legit and the seller has a good reputation. Cox only made 268 of them and I know the person that was responsible for their production (heowns serial #1).

I think the only reason the price did not touch the $1,000 mark is because the auction ended on Christmas Sunday.

Bernie,

I think you may be missing an opportunity here.

Find yourself a famous model aviation personality and co-create an engine with him.

Name the engine after him, crank out a couple hundred signed and numbered copies, and then YOU TOO can make the big bucks!

LOL

That might just work.

I was already discussing a limited edition engine with an engine manufacturer that makes unique, high-end, hand-madeengines in small quantities. I already supply him with parts that go into some of his engines.
