Ace GLH-II WOOT!!
Just won a 1/2 built kit on ebay for $26.26 shipped!
Gonna power it with a throttled .049-.061 hopefully with a muffler to keep the slime down, full 4 channel, speed prop.
No landing gear.
The kit didnt come with any instructions, rudder, or elevator, but the tail is just 3/32 balsa, and the plans are in my head! I just build things in a logical order, lol.

So the real question is how much motor can I stuff in it, and how fast can the airframe go? I know its a symetrical wing, but its a foam wing too, which means I can sand it down!

This was my very first "HOT" airplane. I'll bet that plane burned up 4 engines and about 100 glow plugs of mine. With a well prepped TD .049 and just a 5x3 prop it was a Screaming Meamie...!!
A fellow flyer who hadn't seen it before thought it was a F-86 from a distance as he drove towards the field.
Any .049-.061 will work and you won't get but about 80-90% of the performance that you could if you use a throttle.
I ran mine with a hogged out venturi, KK needle and a latex bladder. Instead of a bladder, backplate pressure works just as good if not better.
I don't know how much it weighed, but I suspect it was kind of heavy. The launches were no big deal, but it was too heavy to go straight up. The weight works with you in a dive... you transfer stored energy and feed it back into the prop. Big dives would unload the engine well past it's static RPM into the "danger zone".
IIRC, they have you bring the leading edge to a sharp point. Even though it has a fat wing [for structural purposes], it's still got a pretty fast airfoil. I don't remember what they have you do for a spar, but you need to inlay real wood that extends at least out to mid span on each wing panel.
I'll bet this plane with a hot TD .049 / 5x3 is capable of 75-80 mph...?
If you can get something like a 4.5 x 3.5 prop from a custom source, then the top speed starts to multiply.
I think this is too much plane for a APC 4.2x4...but I had pretty good results with the next size up that they sell for pylon racing.
As a matter of fact, a TD.049 / GLH holds the course record at a nearby racing club that flys AMA rules pylon.
If you wanted to shave the wing down thinner for more speed, that will work wonders, but be prepared to add strength in the form of some wood. Full depth balsa spars are pretty easy to work in with Gorilla glue, make sure you use just a bare amount of that glue though and fog the air with a water spritzer while you work the glued up spar into the wing. Clear packing tape will help keep things neat until that foamy glue is finished drying.
The modified wing will change the fit in the wing saddles, so be prepared to deal with that complication.

Your just full of good info. Thanks for that. I guess I could go non-throttled as I usually fly WOT anyay, lol. I dont know what a bladder, or what backplate pressure is, but thats why Im here!!!
Instead of using balsa for reinforcement, I like to use carbon fiber, either rods, or square tubeing, in this case I might use carbon fiber sheet that can be inlayed as a spar.
Could I use a Cox Killer Bee with a tank on it, or a black widow?
Would a Queen Bee .074 be too large for this plane?

Thanks for the input Skaliwag, but what exactly is a tow? I am using some carbon fiber hollow round tube in the foamy Im building right now.
I am unsure what type the foam is I will take a macro pic of it when I get it in, and maybe yall can tell me.
So I should stick with a non throttled .049-.051? Possibly with a 1oz fuel tank?

I don't remember what tank fits the best, but I prefer Hayes tanks over the Sullivan tanks. I'll bet the GLH was designed with a Sullivan tank in mind, though.
If you decide to go with Sullivan 1 oz, just use a fixed pickup line in the tank instead of a floppy one.

I use the Sullivan 1oz tanks in most of my .049 planes. You can rig up a workable flop tube but it takes a heavier clunk than what comes with it since the line is so short inside the tank. Good flexible tubing is required as well such as Sullivan 1/2A fuel line. Much more flexible than what comes with the tanks.

Yeah I was watching that one too. Nice too see a kit sell for about what it's worth rather than $175
Also to someone who is going to actually build and fly it rather than file it away in the basement.
I was thinking about bidding myself but I've been looking at a slower 1/2 A plane to build. The Joy Stick.
I'm going electric on this one though. I had ordered this SK2826 by mistake from Hobby King and thought I'd make a plane for it.

Lots of popularity on this little plane then huh. I will definitly be doing a build thread for sure! Thanks for that link WC I will be using it Im sure. I was very happy it only went up to $26. I wasnt going to pay over $30 for an incomplete and BROKEN kit!

I think a large Cox tank will get you up to 90 seconds of run time with 30% nitro and with a prop that allows 20,000 + rpm.
With a Killer Bee on higher nitro, you might be lucky to get a minute.
I've never been satisfied with the built in tanks...I drill a hole through them and run a line back to a seperate tank.

I guess if I wanted a GLH to really scream I'd put a Norvel AME .061 on it after doing the mods Toad has taught us on his web site. We can get them turning close to 30,000 with the carbon insert 5 X 2.5 props from Larry Driscol at Kitting it together. Ya can't go very long in a straight line cause it'll disappear on ya. Don't ask how I know this . . .
