The Q-Tee was my first R/C airplane. I flew it with a Cox Black Widow. I used a standard 500 mah Ni-cd flight pack, but I used Cox/ Sanwa servo's which were a little smaller than standard size at the time. It flew very well. I wore the cabanes out from too many rough landings and wound up removing them completely, lowering the wing to sit on the fuse top like the S-Tee. I mounted a Tee Dee.049 - it was a hot rod for me a the time. I couldn't even guess at how many hundreds of flights I had on that airframe. Great memories for sure.

Nice thing about today's technology, is one can surface recess mount smaller servos with short pushrods, making installation easier. That might be a little tough CG wise as the Q-Tee has a long tail moment with a longer fuselage. My Q-Tee uses smaller mid-sized servos of the day and a Black Widow for power. Nowadays a Norvel .061 Big Mig would really spice it up.

I don't need one spiced up George, All my 1/2A stuff is spiced up. I have a fast GLH, 3- 1/2A pattern planes, 3- 1/2A combat planes and a ME109. What I don't have right now is a simple 2 channel lazy day flier. I'm thinking I can get it to 15oz or less and with the medallion should be just about right for some lawn chair flying

hllywdb, you've got a neat array of aircraft there, I'd say you really do some fancy pattern flying there.

I was referring my my Q-Tee and my spicing it up.

Hi George, not sure my flying would be termed "fancy", but I realy like the way the old pattern planes fly, tuned pipe, retracts, and sharp & crisp. But my larger ones are a bit thirsty. So I built the 1/2A ones and can fly all day and use less fuel than one flight with the larger ones. Plus I can toss them up in the field across the street.

hllywdb, when I say fancy, I'm referring to my flying versus yours. I'm a sport bore holes in the sky pilot. I like watching them fly and that's the purdiest thing in the sky. And I know what you mean about the larger ones being thirsty. That's why I like the .20 size and under. Fuel gets kind of expensive on the larger ones. That's why I'm thinking strongly of the smaller gas engines like the Evolution 10-cc gas burner in a .46 case. Gas costs $3 per gallon, say $4 with oil mixed. Glow fuel is much higher. It doesn't take new math to figure the costs.

I've been testing the new NV 40 size gasser. No ignition, 13oz WITH the muffler, and spins a 10X7 1,000 rpm faster than the glow version. I'm flying 15 min "spirited" flights on 3 1/2 to 4oz of fuel per flight. It's quickly becoming my favorite sport flyer. I can get a lot of flights for $3 worth of pump gas. Probably works out to less cost per flight than a sure start!

I had a Q-Tee back in the late 80's with full sized servos and a full sized hard case Rx battery. It had a Cox Texaco engine running a 6-3 prop and it moved around the sky with authority. I still have the original plans and am in the process of getting the wood together to cut 6 kits for the kids and myself. With the new micro gear and electric motors it should be easy to get a reasonable weight and have 3 ch function and long run times. No more 4 min full bore flights with a glide to land. It will be ROG, touch and goes, and nice lazy flying or full throttle boring holes in the sky.

When you say NV, do you mean Norvel? Without ignition? You've got my interest perked. Are you testing for the manufacturer?

Bill, I read through parts of the thread you mentioned. This is great, a glow ignited gasser. I've been looking at the 10cc (.60) Evolution ignition gasser that has promise, but I like the idea of a .40 gasser without the heavier ignition module. In the thread, you mention it should be available this year. Do you have a rough idea of when?

It should, MrGoodwreck. I've already got the selective Q-Tee tiled pages printed out for pattern making as we speak. The wing hit the ground hard. The hardwood leading edge caused the tips of a half dozen ribs to crunch at the tips. I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to remediate yet. I'm thinking about making half new ribs and cutting the old at the spar. The fuselage sides I will splice somewhere near the middle of the receiver location, make a new plywood firewall, new 3/16" balsa cheek cowls.

This will be its second major repair job.

I use those 200 Mah LiFe Packs from tower all the time. Very light and small. I replace the included battery lead with a lighter one. I would use around 20-30 mah per 10 minute flight on a Honker with full house.

Repair patterns from tiled full size plans have been cut out for the 1/8" ply firewall, 3/16" cheeks and bottom of the cowl, and 3/32" front portion of the fuselage sides. Also included is the wing rib template, which will be further trimmed for rib repair.

I've already cut parts out except for the engine firewall and structural backing lintels and bottom plates. The basic front fuselage balsa structure less the reinforcing structural members have been cut out. Plywood firewall has been templated, to be cut out. Fuselage has been trimmed back 1 inch (25 mm). The new side fronts will be glued in place with a 3/32d inch (2.5 mm) balsa plate to reinforce behind the joint. Left cabine struts were badly cracked requiring a new left cabine strut system. Hidden damage, fix to splice 3/32 in (2.5 mm) balsa to restore side, another to restore upper lintel & reinforcement to strengthen, with cross brace to prevent sides bowing.

I've trimmed back the broken front end of the Q-Tee, 1 inch (25 mm) from the landing gear bulkhead, then added a 3/32d in balsa backer for splicing in the new fuselage 3/32d in side fronts (1st picture). The wadded paper towel is providing a slight pressure until the CA sets up. Replacement cabine struts have been cut out of hardwood. Then I 5-min epoxy glued the right side front in place.

After that set, next I glued the left front vertical cabine strut in place. I also reinforced glued the bottom of the landinge gear bulkead to the plywood fuselage floor. As you notice, there is a slight gap now between the landing gear bulkhead and the cabine strut (2nd picture).

I then epoxied the left front fuselage side in place, using epoxy to fill the gap between the cabine strut and bulkhead. After that set, I glued and clamped the horizontal cabine strut in place and completed filling the same gap from the other side (3rd picture).

I have the plans printed out full size and handed off the balsa and ply to my laser guy along with the cut files. Should be starting mine soon. I have all the wood, radio, and engine mounts, tanks, etc set aside as well.

Why of course, my trusty decades old medallion that I just found (with the aid of a realy good metal detector) after having been buried 8" deep in the turf for 9 months Yes, it needed a bit of work.
