RE: MAN pull out plan AT-6 TEXAN
Yes, you can use them the way they are(mine is), but you'll need to be careful on the parts alignment and somewhat creative when it comes to the cowl and canopy. A .10 would be way too big for this plane, try somewhere around a .049 or maybe a .061(or electric 400, 480 or brushless equivalent).
Update for the weekend: working on painting the pilot still, and kind of stuck on the cockpit floor and canopy. Otherwise it's ready for a couple of clearcoats and maiden. All up weight including battery - 1360mah 3 cell Lipo - is 14oz. With the 6x4 prop, the current draw I'm getting is just about 15 amps at full throttle, which is close to the speed control's max, but still ok I think. Might have some cooling issues, but we'll see what happens. This thing's gonna be FAST. [8D]

Speaking of a .10 that Fun51er mentioned, what size (wingspan) increase would have to be made to have this Texan fly nicely with a .10 sized engine?
BTW, any AT-6 history buffs out there can tell me why they call it the Texan? Does the name have any significance?

Technically AT6-Harvard, but almost always referred to as just Harvard. It was built by Noorduyn Aviation and the Canadian Car & Foundry under license from North American for use by the RCAF and RAF.
AT stands for Advanced Trainer.
Texans were built in the North American plant in Dallas.
The US Navy name is SNJ.

Hey Bipe, any idea where the Canadian Car & Foundry was located? I used to live in a city called Thunder Bay (in Ontario) and there was a Canada Car plant there. I wonder if they used to make ther Harvard there years ago?

RE: MAN pull out plan AT-6 TEXAN
Sorry all - had to delay the maiden flight due to weather, and went to go see family out of state.
Anyway - here's the flight report, and more pictures as promised earlier. All I can really saw is WOW! With a freshly charged 3 cell li-po, the takeoff roll was about 6 inches, then straight up faster than I was expecting.(I wasn't ready for it!) Made one pattern at high speed, then tried to slow down a little for pictures, that's where the trouble hit. My first thought was that I had gotten it too slow, and it tip stalled(keep reading), but after walking over and picking it up, and brushing the dirt off(not even a scratch after spinning in from about 50ft!), I decided to try it again. So, back onto the runway, and into the air again at about warp 12(vertical of course ), this time the spin monster hit really quick, and it (fortunately landing in grass/weeds) and did some damage to the cowl and firewall, which really isn't too bad. After thinking it over, and hearing the observations of fellow fliers at the field, I figure the CG was too far aft(which confirmed my suspicions from the beginning) I'll get it repaired and back into the air again sometime in the next week or two, not to mention a coat of gloss clear, the pilot, and landing gear doors. "work in progress"

Thanks!
It's actually a very nicely designed model(plans), I'm seriously considering building another(with changes) and using that .049 that I have sitting around. [>:]

I too have the print and am well into my build and NOW i find out bout the size discrepency!! do you guys feel that the available cowl and canopy could still fit acceptably? after all its only 5%, right? Im planning to use the throttled 0.61 that I have on my 1\2 Herr Aquastar and am also planning to have flaperon function. other than the size issue this looks like a fun build and im very anxious to fly her!

Just download the full size plans(FREE) and print them out with Bipe's program. The stuff you get from Ziroli is too big to make the fit well.
Or you could just say the heck with it, and make your own parts(actually pretty easy)

RE: MAN pull out plan AT-6 TEXAN
hello I read some of the posts about the man prints for The Nick Ziroli AT-6 Texan being off scale, I have a set of prints I downloaded from "Back Yard Flyer" does anyone know if these prints are ok? At the bottom of my prints there is a 6" scale bar, I had my prints blown up I think it was 400% or 404% at Staples and the scale bar measures exactly 6". Also does anyone know if you can still get the cowl and canopy and side scoop from Nick? Does anyone know how to get in contact with Nick for these parts, the prints say to send $16.00 post paid to Nick Ziroli at 686 E. Monroe St. Little Falls, NY 13365 but these prints are dated 2002 so I don't know if this is still valid
Thanks and sorry for such a large post

The downloaded plans are correct, the magazine printers screwed up when they ran the issue, and got them messed up. Yes, as far as I know, Nick's address is the same.
Good luck - and post pictures! [8D]

2019 Update
The plans on outerzone are the incorrect 30" version. Increasing to 106 2/3 % gives 32".
The cowl and canopy are still available from Ziroli plans for $15, postage included. Email them at [email protected] for information.
