The Honker was the first RC aircraft I ever built back in the 70's. It started life with an Ace single channel wig-wag radio powered by a Cox Golden Bee .049. Hand tossed it for balance and it flew straight and long without any radio input. Fired it up and tossed it for the first time, and it porpoised seven or eight times until it hit the ground. No mention of adding engine angle incidence in the instructions. Lots of old timers got a good laugh, but told me what needed to be done to correct the problem (and looking back at it later, I was able to laugh also). I had never had that kind of problem with all the Jetex and rubber powered models I had built up until then. Fixed it and flew it for about 4 months before I upgraded it to two channels, using a Kraft single stick radio. Flew it for a few years until I moved up to a Sig Kadet MKII. May end up ordering the plans from RCM and build another, but switch to electric.

DO NOT under any circumstances order plans from RCM Plans Service. They have been taking folk's money for some time and never shipping plans. Do a title search in RCU and RCG on RCM Plans . There are multiple threads posted by folks who have been stiffed by these people.

My Honker's ancient Norvel 06 got tired so I installed a AP 15 rear exhaust. I was worried about the hand launch but it pulled hard. Flew excellent. Not faster than the Norvel but has unlimited vertical. At least until I can't see it. So thanks Mr. Thornburg for a wonderful design!
