Sneasle --
SIG is the current US distributor of NORVEL engines. Based on email I received from NORVEL techsupport at SIG, the factory in Russia was moved to another location and the supply of engines has been very spotty. The SIG rep indicated that production should be back on-line within a couple of months.
SIG's pricing policy on NORVELs is designed to support the LHS and while you can pay the listed SIG price, the dealer network price is available on the SIG site. SIG also sets the minimum pricing for the LHS -- consequently, you will generally find the same price across the on-line sites.
The NORVELs are split into two models: AME and Big Mig. The AME is ported for a higher top end, is a little less user friendly and may not throttle as well as the Big Mig. The Big Mig Startup, CLX and R/C versions are the same with the exception of carburation. The R/C version has a throttle; the Startup and CLX are fixed venturi -- the R/C carb and the venturi will interchange with no modification. The only difference between the Startup and CLX is the position of the pickup tube in the tank mount -- the CLX is for controlline and the Startup is for standard R/C, but will not run for an extended length of time inverted. If you use your own tank, then it's a moot point. I like a little longer run time than the tank mount provides.
The Big Mig will provide all the power you need for your DNU -- you just need to decide if you want to throttle or not. I wouldn't use one on the DNU. The Startup gets you a mount, tank and starter spring -- perhaps not a bad choice for a first plane.
NORVELs come up regularly on eBay, but can go high -- I've bought a number thru eBay, but stay away from used engines.

mnrcaerobat, I see you are from the Twin Cities area... You might try Hub Hobbies. One in Richfield, the other in... not in Richfield, I cant remember. Anyway they do sell Norvel. Unsure if they have parts however, but worth a local call.

RE: Norvel Engines
There are a few nice ones on Ebay, but you'll need a turbo head as plugs are impossible to find and needles are a problem too. I'm thinking about how much trouble it would be worth to make a run of Norvel needles and sell them but don't know if it's worth it.
