RE: Hey!! Crew, 30 day red alert!!
It takes a college degree to fly a plane but only a high school diploma to fix one.
Reassurance for those of us who fly frequently.
After every flight, Qantas pilots fill out a form, called a "gripe sheet," which tells
mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document
their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next
flight. Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor.
By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had an accident.
The following comments are actual maintenance complaints submitted by Qantas' pilots (marked with a
P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers:
P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.
P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.
P: Something loose in cockpit.
S: Something tightened in cockpit.
P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on backorder.
P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent.
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.
P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.
P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.
P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That's what they're for.
P: IFF inoperative.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.
P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.
P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.
P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious.
P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.
P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed.
P: Noise coming from under instrument panel.
Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget

RE: Hey!! Crew, 30 day red alert!!
Considering that Quantas operates strictly turbine- powered civillian aircraft, I'm not sure how an engine could miss, and am equally at a loss as to why they'd have a "target radar..."
Oh, and you need an A&P license obtained through two years of college to work on aircraft these days.

Flyswatter and I still plan on paying $200 in gas for the free burgers and cokes. Matter-of-fact, I'm getting a little "antsie"! I need a few days off, know what I mean!?

Is there anything I can bring? I have a few fold up chairs. I'll have a camera to get lots of pics. Do you think there will be anyone there who will know how to operate a camera so we can get pics of me holding my trophies? There will be trophies, right?[X(]
Seriously, you all are going to laugh at what a poor pilot I am.[]

RE: Hey!! Crew, 30 day red alert!!
Looking forward to it, Rog! I plan on bringing pt, he stays so busy on the weekends that going with him to the NC RACES maybe the only way I will see him fly!
tj & raine:
Don't worry about your flying. I always felt that good flying was way overrated. It eliminates crashes and a chance to improve my building skills! Seriously, just come and have a good time with a great bunch of guys.

Alright Rog, I will try to make it up for the event my wife likes road trips anyway so it should be easy to convince her. I will get my little project done and broke in and maidened. If it passes (does not crash and splinter) I will bring it with me. Try not to laugh as it is not only my first 1/2a but my first build.

Is the field bunker equipped with overhead cover? Hope so.... for everyone's sake.

piper I think with the rarity of triplanes that up to a .*% would be allowed, I was hoping this thread would get a little busier after the Labor day weekend!..Rog

Rog:
Can we delay race day so we Georgia boys can get more practice? We put out our practice poles yesterday and one of our fellows accidently "touched" the pole on his very first real practice pass by pole number 1![sm=cry_smile.gif] Figure about 2 hours of repair. I think if this the norm for our guys, then it will take us about 2 years to be ready to go around 2 poles - 5 times without bending our a/c.[sm=eek.gif]

RE: Hey!! Crew, 30 day red alert!!
That mean you guys arent coming till 09-30-08?, Hey at least gas prices came down! you got time for some practice still...Today I took my .25 trainer to the field, couldnt get it to start with prime and then it only ran sporadically, turns out I had the plumbing backwards..then when I did get it to run the connector on the servo arm wouldn't hold the control rod so the only way I could have maidened my .25 trainer would have been wide open if I could have gotten it started again!!...so I decided to abort the whole thing..nothing else ready to fly yet so back home I go, its fixed now but looks like rain so maybe later in the week I'll give it a shot, the rest of this week I get to work daytime normal hours....Rog

Just ordered a little something sexier to bring to the event. What can I say, I'm impulsive... or is that compulsive; well anyway I got a Norvel .074 here on RCU for $30 and decided to get this: http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmar...FV4.html?E+Sig to go along with it. Anyway my wife does not know yet so if I don't make it she probably burried me in the backyard.[X(]
