Default UPDATE*VIDEO*Herr Cloud Ranger

I have been working on a Herr Cloud Ranger off and on now for the last couple of weeks... more off than on Any way this has been a build of inspiration and my inspiration is duely noted on the plane

I picked up one of those kits too. What did you think of the kit? It seems like it'll be a bit much for a .074, I'm tossing the idea around in my head of making a trimotor out of it using 3 AP .061s....

An .061 by it's self would fly the plane. Just not all that exciting, it's a trainer afterall. However mine will be outfitted with a OS .10 and I have converted it to a bolt down wing. Your project sounds like it would be a real rocket.

I was thinking the wrong guy built this ship. The wing should have those same graphics but should read "build light" instead.

I might alter to airfoil to something a bit closer to a clark-y as well...

Alright! I finished it Today was a beautiful spring day and a perfect day for a maiden flight. Although the Cloud Ranger is technically a trainer. I have it set up a little more sporty. Outfitted with an OS .10 LA w/ an APC 7x3 and rediculous control throws this little booger is a blast. Pretty quick and snappy. Ground handling was easy for me but my buddy had a time with it when the wind kicked up a few notches (the only 2 minutes that there was more than negligable wind today). I found that the rudder is highly efective on this plane and will roll simply with the rudder only... an ugly roll, but a roll. To much dihedral for a good snap roll though. and to stable to put into a decent spin. I have the CG a touch aft (1/4 inch) of the recomended. I also installed the fuel tank (4 oz) pretty close to on the CG instead of the normal forward location. It has Hitech HS-81 servos and a Hitech 6 Chanel receiver. All in all a great little plane. I think this plane is why Rog is not allowing .10's in the unlimited class for the CC races, because it will start and stay running long enough to finish the five laps. I have to go to Jersey for the next to weeks but will get a video posted when I get back.

Really nice job! Bet you can get some long flights off a 4 ounce tank!

Congrats on successful maiden.

That's absolutely gorgeous! Easily the nicest covering job I've seen here in many moons. No doubt this plane is an excellent choice for a .10, not real easy to find good ".10" material out there. Have fun, I'm sure you will make some .10 - .15 size converts in your pilgrimage with this plane through the CC ranks.

Looks Great Phil!!..My .07-.10 Chea-Pass stick has a .15 Magnum on it,,and I will tell you all up front it is the ugliest plane I ever covered...I used scraps off what covering I had left to finish it off, its white ,purple, green, orange, ...but if it flys fine then I really dont care....got a .10 spacewalker coming too....Rog

Thank you all for the compliments. While the plane is not perfect by any means I am a little proud of it. Well as promised I am back from my little trip and threw together a video of the maiden flight. Enjoy.

Great video big head, hahahaha, it flys great, I got one in the mail the other day, called a friend the other day I hadnt seen in 20 years and he wants to get back in the hobby too...I may put that Magnum .10 on it and let him practice with that and/or my .15 trainer...again its a really nice flying/looking plane....for under $40 at Tower, I have too many projects due before May 5 anyway...Rog
This morning I tried to put an exhaust deflector on my .15...too loose, I went downstairs and found a short piece of that really cheap hard plastic yellow air compressor line, it wouldnt fit so I boiled it for a couple of minutes, stretched it out with needle nose pliers and slipped it over the end, it cooled down and so far lasted for 4 flights..my plane is GOOP FREE!!

Isn't that a trainer? What's with all the aerobatics? BTW, you could send it my way if you don't need/want it

Uh lets clarify that...Rog wanted .074's as the limit..I was out voted down to .061
next on your build list get a HOB chea-pass or spacewalker for.07-.10, I'm going .15 on mine....Rog

Sorry guys had to comment here too..I thought it would be a little bit beefier build than a simple series..It is a jigsaw puzzle from the little bit I have worked on,,there is no hold it in your hands and build this thing, the fuse sides are 3 pieces for each side then held together with internal pieces (kinda like nose doublers all over)for strength and from Phils video it can easily handle that .10...I'm definatly going ailerons with mine....Rog

Hey guys, I took the Cloud Ranger, aka Miss Bud Lite, out again today. This plane is just a lot of fun. I would recomend it to anyone with a .10 - .15 laying around and $35 for the kit. I did have to reinforce the lower part of the rudder due to the tail wheel wire breaking out of it. I just laminated two peices of lite ply on both sides just big enough to add support where the wire goes through the rudder. Thought I would bring that up for those of you that build one.

Cool man! I'll post a video with flight report's, I have a feeling that with the flat bottom airfoil the outside water fall/ knife edge spins are going to be fun.
