RE: CLANCY MICRO BEE
FWIW, the next thing I do to the Baby Bee is to cobble up a steerable tail wheel to make take-offs and touch-n-goes on my driveway a little cleaner (the neighbors often point and laugh at me when I'm fighting a cross wind - come to think of it they point and laugh when I'm not flying too. They must be just remembering watching me fly. Yeah, that's what it is. Whew.)
I'd like to build another Baby Bee wing too - using Profili to put in some real reflex and make provisions for 1/32 x 3/16 cap strips (to give the covering a little more 'bite' in the reflexed area).
It occurs to me that I'm "rambling on and on and on . . . blah, blah, blah . . . foaming at the mouth" (quote from Monte Python). Please ignore all of the above if you don't care for Bees.

RE: CLANCY MICRO BEE
Can anyone make a recommendation for an electric motor and battery combo for the MicroBee? I don't want anything too overpowered, but having some extra juice is always good!

Whoa Sky,
Lookin' good! Just goes to prove the old adage, "there's something about an Aqua Velva man." No wait, that's not it. "There's something about a well-built, transparent covered, stick model." Yes, that's better. But why two? Surely you don't intend to bend one?
As for electric power for the Microbe-e (yeah I just figured that out - probably years after everyone else!): I didn't consider e-power for mine but I'll ask the more-into-e-power-than-me guy in my club who said he was thinking of the same thing. I'll go ask him.

Double the pleasure Double the fun Micro Bees for everyone! [sm=shades_smile.gif]
The Yellow one is mine and the Red one I built for my flying Buddy.
Just a few more hours on the detail stuff and.....off to the field we go!

I wish I had enough experience with the smaller electrics to make a confident recommendation for e-power for a Micro Bee, but I don't. If I were to make a guess I'd say one of the small CD-rom motors on two cells would be a good start. You could spend more money to get one of the newer outrunners that Tower advertises. And there are always the ten dollar C-10 or C-20 motors from China.

RE: CLANCY MICRO BEE
Gabe, an .020 on the Microbe!? Jeeze Louise. The plans I have show a 9-inch wing. When I put it all together, I swear it looked like just wing TIPS were sticking out each side. I would sure like to see that model "fly" but I felt that all I'd be doing was seeing how many hand-launch ground strikes the fuselage would survive.
So, I made a 13-inch wing and it still looks like something even Vic or CP would look twice at - with just the little .010 up front. You must be a very "manly" man - no offense intended I was just trying to think of what's the opposite of Arnold's "girly" man . I still haven't tried to fly mine - my excuse is that I'm waiting for the perfect hand-launch. The truth is probably closer to the fact that I'm not sure I can keep up with it.
Well, now having writ all that I can't help but wonder How a lightly built Micro would fly with one of the 12mm motors like the hottie called for the 15-inch "Zagis" and Stevens Aero Mini Hotliner (I forget who makes them right off).

RE: CLANCY MICRO BEE
Hope you guys don't mind some more micro pictures. First is a shot of the Ace littlest stick I first flew with a pee wee 020. It was under powered and couldn't keep it in the air. I put a Tee Dee 010 w/throttle and took off like a rocket. I have 20-25 flights on it with only 1 broken prop. Once its in the air and settled in i can throttle back and flies beautiful. I woudn't have a picture to show you if it were not for a throttle. (Don't under estimate the power of a up to snuff running Tee Dee 010.) The other pictures are of a micro bee i just finished with a extended wing from the origanal 10inch to a (15 inch wing). This will also be throttled. The littlest stick has a 17 inch wing but the bees 15 inch wing area is almost indentical with the extended wing. I'm confident this combo will work. The problem is in N Dak it was -20 below last night and spring is a long way off for me for flying.

RE: CLANCY MICRO BEE
Thought i would aslo post pictures of the Micro Telestaster with 35 inch wing. Not to be confused with mini tele with 45 inch wing. This will be powered by Tee Dee 020 w/throttle and 1 ounce tank. This plane was meant for electric but the 020 adapts very easily and with large tank you can enjoy a mutch looooonger flight!

RE: CLANCY MICRO BEE
GlowTime,
I am jealous of you! Those models look great and you have wheels. I didn't have nerve enough to put wheels on my Microbee. I just knew that if they were there I'd try touch-n-goes off the picnic tables. My Baby Bee already has suffered that indignity and shows the seriously re-shaped LE as proof (I never even got one good bounce before I deftly (using all my skills) guided her into the side of the table.
Hog,
Not "Achmed the Terrible"!!! Mother of all Infidel boppers! AKA "Camel Breath Achmed" down at Local # 69 of the Path to Glory Union Hall and breath mint factory. To paraphrase Mr. Bill, or Gumby, or whoever it was, "ooooooh nooooo"!

RE: CLANCY MICRO BEE
Gabe,
I built a Lady Bug from Hobby People supplied plans with an all up weight of 10 oz. Mine has two FMA S80 servos, a SR Batteries 150mah battery pack, a Hitec HS55 servo, lots of balsa wood, Lavender Ultracoat transparent light, regular Ultracoat yellow, a Perfect metal ? oz wedge tank, #3 heavy Trexler wheels, and my local Hobby Shop were able to supply a GWS 4 channel RX. I use a Norvell starter that is powered by an eight cell battery pack. I ran a 1/8" ID latex surgical tubing from the exhaust collector thru the wind shield, thru the fuselage and exiting the rear for no mess diesel flying. My PAW .03 r/c engine turns a MAS 6x4 at 12.8K rpm. The speed is a bit faster than you expect. Landings are a dream! The recommended rudder and elevator throws are not enough for even normal control. I have approximately the recommended right thrust and it is way too much.

RE: CLANCY MICRO BEE
Chevy,
Ach Trexlers, you're right. I have bowed my head in shame. Let's not mention this to Achmed.
Frances,
don'tcha just love dem liddle PAWs (that's not a question). Don't tell anyone but I have to keep my oily rags and diesel 'kit' in the garage. I'm allowed to carry anything else up to my playroom upstairs without comment, but SWMBO has a sensitive nose.
Seriously, that's a pretty plane. There's nothing like transparent covering to show off the structure.

Hey there Bee. Just picked up my Lady Bug kit and the only instructions there are there are th eones I sent you earlier. One page front and back. What a different kit. Laser cut parts, rolled plan, weighs about an ounce all together, and comes in a bag? What a different way to sell a kit. Thought it was an oversized Guillows glider when I opened the box it was shipped in. Well got me a kit now. Only to start building probably next week. Would like to finish off the micro first.
