CP, I sure hope negativity doesn't rule before they've had a chance to evaluate this little jewel.
I'm sure all the effort and money Randy has put into this project was worth it or he wouldn't have done it.
We need a good Half-A and how long do you think it will take before one of the guys makes a diesel head for it.
I think I would stick to glo as it looks like a genuine Go-Fast type.

Well, someone is just going to have to pony up and check this thing out! Wait.. what's that sound? It's my credit card vibrating in my pocket.. oh no not again.
Man, that carb looks as big as the rest of the engine. I wonder how big the hole is.

This is not a new offering. It was introduced a few years ago with much anticipation and hype. It didn't live up to the hype and so it kind of faded from view. I hate to say this but I think that MECOA has picked up another stray dog for it's kennel

PT,
You are probably the smartest banana in our bunch.
I checked with Randy and he has less than 50 of the black case Toki engines left.
I remember having an old split case Fox .19 when they first came out. After looking it over I decided it would eventually develop case leaks and complained to Fox. Duke wrote back that he had a new 1-piece case model and if I would return the split-case with $1.00 he would send me the new model.
Well, I sent it back and now ask your collector friends what a split-case Fox .19 goes for on the collectors' market.
I wish I could pick up several of these Toki .05 engines as they are sure to be hot collector tickets in the future. Then there are the guys like CP who will make a flying dart and try to break the speed of light...or somthing.
Dan

It may be a photographic illusion, but it doesn't appear that you could slip a gnat's hair between the back of the prop and the carb mouth. I'll bet there will be some skinned knuckles from trying to adjust the airbleed while it's running.

Andrew,
That Toki looks like one of the more "Sprited" performance type engines and I would probably use an electric starter anyway.

Dan, I hope to increase the collectors value by reducing the available NIB units myself. Speed of sound is the goal.
Andrew, the solution there is to wire it WOT and forget the airbleed.

When I talked to MECOA the other day that is one of the things that are being changed. Will be at least 1/8" clearance between back of prop and carb.

I've also wondered why manufacturers have continued to use slotted or phillips head screws in locations where adjustments would be made while the engines are running. It seems that a socket head screw would be better -- or at least a lot easier to adjust with a ball tipped allen wrench. I've always had problems with a typical screwdriver not staying in place.
BTW, am I losing my mind, or did the black Toki just jump $10 in price?

It looked tight -- the 1/8" will help.

Yes, a $10 price hike did take place overnight.

RE: MECOA- Toki .05 Aircraft Engine
Hah! My engine has already increased in value and it hasn't even arrived! Looks like Dan was right about it's value as a collectable. To bad I got every intention of proving the doubters wrong with a speedy engine right out of the box... After the brass rod gets drilled.

PT are you going to have aluminum replacement rods available for the Toki. I sold all of my Norvels to Piggy and have been having sellers remorse ever since. I may just have to order one of the Toki's just so I can say I am still a 1/2A flyer. Guess the drawer full of TeeDee's would count though

When RCU talks, manufacturers listen! Apparently, they're expecting a big increase in sales.
I wonder if that rod is bronze rather than brass?

I've ordered a Toki. Couldn't stand it anymore!

Me to! We have lots of snow on the ground and it will be some time til I am able to set up the test stand and wring it out. That should give me plenty of time to fuss over it after it arrives til the snow is gone.
And dang it all, missed the cheaper price too!
I have been doing some poking around the internet and have found some interesting bits. I will be posting them later when I get better organized.
I won't be converting it to diesel, I'll leave that up to AndyW.
cheers, Graham

RE: MECOA- Toki .05 Aircraft Engine
Here I am getting back into Cox reedies and control line for the summer and MECOA will actually ship me a Fuji .05. I don't even care it if will sit in the box most almost all the time until NEXT year. And I will want a diesel head -- maybe I should start asking MECOA when they will be ready to ship that?
Remember, everybody, the sales for this engine might well determine how many 1/2A engines we'll see in the future. Everybody buy at least one!
