Looking forward to seeing everyone's entries.... Count me in.... just found the perfect Roy Clough Jr. model to model.

....and yes - this means I will also finish the Skydrill.

.......just do an ounce worth of work per day and a plane like that can be finished in 2 weeks.

disconnecting the TV set and the computer can speed things up, also.

12.7oz Dry. 13.7 Wet ... 2 weeks and it's maiden'd and trimmed and set up to be your lunch time rush. And ... Bonus... competitive at the Reedie Race.

CP - I tend to agree with you. The root cause is having 4 kids under the age of 8 at my house, but the TV and Computer are not helping in anyway, shape or form.

Exactly what you said... as a friend told me "15 minutes each day at the building board can produce a model airplane in no time flat."

This is my resolution for this year....

One completed Skydrill coming up! Target: September Carolina Crew fly-in.

forsakenrider;
Look into Sig's website, they have AAA Castor.

Question about the Notest, will the "model" have to fly?

Looking at the rules it appears that flight is not a requirement.

We letting lawyers into the forums now? Of COURSE they have to fly! This ain't some solid scale display forum after all.....

Rule 5 has been added to the first post....

5) Designs must demonstrate some ability to fly well enough under control to crash at some point well removed from where a simple toss would locate the impact point. Generous group respect and personal satisfaction will be garnered from flights that result in no repairs being required for subsequent flights.

RocketRob and av8rsodt added to the list.

One issue though av8rsodt. Unless you're going to use the Roy Clough design only as inspiration for your own version then it's not eligable. It's a DESIGN contest. That means YOU gotta design it. Obvious plagarism is OK but there still needs to be a significant contribution in the design from youself.

BMatthews,

I will be converting the Roy Clough design from C/L to R/C, does that fit the "design" rule. In a way the C/L model has inspired me to do a 1/2A version.
There is quite a bit that needs re-designed.

If this does not count, I will go onto plan "B".

Thanks,
Brian

The requirements to convert the design are easily going to be enough to make it original. Have at 'er!

I have an idea and it is about to give me a hweadache, so count me in. I can't let HKBII be the only Alaskan in. I have a friend who has built an A frame. Have to get my Klemm off the bench first. 1/2A power correct? Just have to put the Spook off again.

Can I play too?

I confess to having built nothing but electrics for the past year or two but I am getting this strange urge to pour fuel into a prop cut. I think it has something to do with my new meds.

P.S. I have ample room on my mantle for a trophy.

OK, I may have to blaspheme here, but let me ask a question: Does it HAVE to be a liquid-fuel based powerplant? Could electrons be acceptable?

Tim, it's a nontest, not a contest.....so if you submit a plane that could be adapted to 1/2A power, that's the spirit.
I always hope to see contributions that bring new ideas and innovation. So many more small design ideas are possible with electric power.

Truth be known my own design(s) will be electric but I'm going to cheat and show .049's on the plans....

Or since I'll be moving out of town and closer to Bipe Flyer's territory and joining his club pretty quickly I may just stick an .049 on for nostalgic reasons because I can and the noise it'll make isn't an issue.

OK! Count me un-in for the un-contest. Oh, what is balsa wood? Can I get lumber at Home depot? I guess I would need some muslim(spelling ? ) to cover it with although I do have some old burlap, but it does soak up white wash real bad. Im a thinken i might use an old ghq engine that I found at a garage sale the seller said it was the best runner he had ever had. Well, I guess I had better find and old brown paper sack to draw plans on. I plan on selling the plans for a sack full of candy paid in full no later than oct 31. Please no tire kickers. serious buyers only. Sweet Dreams, Logair

I have been inspired by the Herr Little Extra. Been flying mine all summer with an OS.10 and just love this little plane. Since I have an extra OS.10, four HS55 servos and an extra spectrum receiver...... Looks like I need an Ugly Stick using the Extra dims for inspiration. Lots of control surface and light (I Hope)! I took a look at the Not So Ugly Stick and almost decided to build that plane, real nice design but I think if this thing flys it will fit the bill better plus I can enter the Nontest '09!

I just about have a rough set of plans drawn and layouts for all the parts to be cut on a laser using 3x36" stock. With a Halloween deadline, covering will be Solarfilm in orange with black trim. PDF pics of the plans will follow soon. I gotta get away from work early enough to get to the hobby shop!

Picture it: Sunday afternoon. High clouds, light breeze. The usual contingent of my fans and admirers clustered around the table where I have proudly placed my non-entry. A hush falls over the crowd as I inject 35% fuel into the black-tank TD .010. Having forced fuel up into the venturi I attach the glow-lighter and wind up the spring starter. One spin. two spins. three spins and THAT sound is heard by all. Some faint of heart observers take a sissy step backwards as many in the group have never heard an unmuffled exhaust. But I smile to reassure them.

Ailerons and elevator are checked for appropriate response and I stride confidently to the flight line. There are muted voices behind me but a few words come through clearly, "wotta a man", "hero", "a gift". I pretend not to hear.

The little engine is still singing sweetly and I raise my arm for the perfect into-the-wind launch. The model, affectionately known herewith as Blue-in-the-Face, leaves my hand in the classic and correct attitude . . .

. . . then slowly drifts earthward in the classic and less correct UNDERPOWERED attitude.

The cheering dies abruptly - as if a switch had been thrown. My former admirers disperse. No one makes eye contact with me.

Quickly I clear the work table of 'evidence', and casually wipe some moisture from my eyes - must be windier than I thought.

A lesser man might be broken by this experience.
Not I!!!
In the words of some old military guy, "I shall return"!

There will be joy in Raleigh - the mighty Raymond won't strike out!

Very enjoyable read. Slap an .020 on that puppy.

Yeah Bipe, "Mighty" indeed!

I already have a never-run TD .020 earmarked for the rescue effort. Given that TD .020s are even harder to come by than my favorite .010s - I am resolved to run it in on the bench first before risking - er, I mean - mounting the engine to my as yet unproven Blue-in-the-Face design.

I hasten to make it absolutely clear that although it may sound like I lack confidence in B-i-t-F (the "t"is silent) I utterly repudiate such a notion. Next Sunday I will report resounding success. Nyah, nyah.
