2009 Design Nontest
This is the official sign in and progress thread for the 2009 RCU Design Nontest. No that is not a mistype this will be an event where everyone that completes a model is a winner. Sort of like passing the skills test for a scout badge.
Rules-
1) Engine- Any single engine up to .15 ci. Or multis in any format with displacements not to exceed a total of .20 ci.
2) Any style or mission of model can "nonpete". Imagination and resourcefulness will be recognized and comended by your peers. That's as close to an award as you'll get.
3) While CAD, image or scanned in paper sketches or drawn plans would be nice and are encouraged so these projects can be shared this is not a requirement.
4) There will be a "Special" reward for CP if he participates just because. The nature of this award is to be determined...... :evilgrin
5) Designs must demonstrate some ability to fly well enough under control to crash at some point well removed from where a simple toss would locate the impact point. Generous group respect and personal satisfaction will be garnered from flights that result in no repairs being required for subsequent flights.
Time frame- this Nontest commences now and will run until midnight of Halloween 2009. Special nonpoints redeemable for bragging rights, chuckles and a small addtional worthless but worthy merchandise prize to be awarded to engine powered flying pumpkin designs flown in the last hour before closing.
Please sign in if you intend to participate before starting so we have a head count.
GENTLEMEN..... TO.... YOUR... BENCHES ! ! ! ! !

I am a newby here, but I will sign on. I have some ideas I was going to try this summer, and a deadline might help in the motivation department.

I'm kinda limited on time, so I'll have to keep in small and simple. Ima thinkin' .010 CL.
I guess we don't really need a site set up if we aren't voting. Maybe Bruce could edit the first post on this thread with links to the build threads.

When is Hallowe'en?
A day to celebrate being a Fundamentalist Pagan[8D]
Oct 31
"Traditionally, the festival was a time used by the ancient Celtic pagans to take stock of supplies and slaughter livestock for winter stores. The ancient Celts believed that on October 31, now known as Halloween, the boundary between the living and the deceased dissolved, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops. The festivals would frequently involve bonfires, into which the bones of slaughtered livestock were thrown. Costumes and masks were also worn at the festivals in an attempt to copy the evil spirits or placate them."

John, it's sort of like Guy Fawks day if that helps. Kid's dress up in costumes and run around to everyone's house asking for candy. Spooks, goblins and other scarey stuff is all part of it along with pumkins with scarey or sad faces and candles inside. Oct 31 in any event.
And once we get a few more sign ins I'll post a list of names in the first post and add in links to the build threads as they come up.
It would also help if you all title your build threads to look like "Nontest09 {insert model name}". That'll help folks find the thread later by using the search for the term "nontest09.

Okey doke, October 31 it is. Thanks for that.
Actually we do get kids running round the neighbourhood trick or treating, but it isn't a huge thing here. Guy Fawkes is not big any more either, sadly. Fond memories of fireworks nights as a kid in the 60's.

Et moi.
It's about time I got off my keester and build some models. Lord knows that now I'm retired I SHOULD be able to find the time. I've got all my CAD doodles from the last three or so events so the initial work is all done already....

Just as it should be! So will mine, not sure what yet, maybe a side-port for old-timey flavour (and smell), or maybe my favourite PAW 55. Decisions, decisions
