Default Perfect Brand Fuel Tank Numbers and Dimensions

Does anyone have a size and number chart they could post so I can try and match up the part number with the dimensional size of the tank?

Thanks!

It would be great to have a comprehensive chart of perfect tanks. I can help just a little to get started.

No. 1 (see picture below) is 1/4 ounce and two of the dimensions are 11/16" X 15/16". Don't know actual length.

No. 2 (see picture below) is 1/2 ounce and two of the dimensions are 11/16" X 15/16". Don't know actual length.

No. 3 (see picture below) is 3/4 ounce and dimensions are 11/16" X 15/16" X 2 1/32" long.

I'm also interested in how deep the pickup line protrudes into these tanks as I'd like to use one for RC use and am trying to figure out the best way to orient it in the plane.

Couple of comments: There are two different sizes of 3/4 oz wedge tanks (one asks, "How can that be?". Secondly, I would never ever use a Perfect tank without popping the back plate off and seeing where the tubes actually go. I would also replace the brass tubes with copper tubes. Three comments there.

The Perfect line of tanks was purchased by Brodak. His tanks are the same except they do not have Perfect stamped on them. You can check them starting with BH-501 (which equates to Perfect #1).

Pics and dimensions are shown:

TeeBee try this trick. Take a paper clip and bend it out and break it just about anywhere, then use the small hook by the break as a feeler and try and feel for the end of the tube, then mark with your thumb and compare. All the tubes go all the way across to the other side minus room for air or fuel, but not all are "perfect".

Thanks for all the responses fellas looks like Brodak has the layout. I seen they had tanks but wasn't positive they matched up to Perfect's tooling or not.

Jim mentioned swapping out the brass tubing for copper. Sure wish they would do that in the first place. Brass just gets eaten up bad with nitro.

I remember a long time ago I tried to customize a small Perfect tank to get the pick-up tube positioned as a drain tube, stopping just inside the tank. I had a weak iron and ended up heating the whole end up where the tubing was it came apart on me and I got it back on but man was it crooked.

I think if I were to try again I would try a micro-torch.

Additional thoughts on the Brodak-Perfect tanks:

I THINK Brodak only produces the most popular sizes of Perfect wedge tanks. The original Perfect tanks had some wedge tank sizes that came with the pickup tube on the end of the wedge, or top or bottom center of the tank. They also made square and rectangular tanks for FF.

I believe he retained the use of various sized tubing as appropriate for the intended engine. For example, 1/2A tanks would use small brass tubing so you could use small size fuel tubing to connect engine to tank.

My trick for popping the back off a soldered metal tank is to set it on my glass topped kitchen stove and use tongs and plieres to seperate the tank and back when the solder brightens up. Put it back together on the stove top as well.

that wouldn't go over very well in my house..

I broke down and bought my own toaster oven for the workshop even, for heating engine cases to remove bearings, etc. That way I don't stink up the "food oven"..

it is pretty convenient, though, and I got it for all of ten bucks at a garage sale!

I just pulled out my box of NIB Perfect tanks and have the following numbers.

1,2,3,7,15,16,17,18,19 & 20.

There seem to be three different colors used on the boxes.

The oldest one seems to be a white box with Red highlights, then a light Green and the latest style has Dark Green highlights and stencil style lettering.

LOL - true, but that hot oil scent that we love tends to hang around.. That's ok, I like my little toaster oven, it's faster to heat up than the big one.

This is entirely true, however, continuity is never gauranteed!

My wife hates that smell! She used to "borrow" my pickup a lot when her car would run low on gas. I started leaving a couple of dirty rags in the floorboard that had been used to clean the goo off models and she stays out of it for the most part now. Now back to your Perfect thread.

A Perfect wedge tank mounted with the V down and inclined down to the rear makes a fine sport tank as long as you don't want to fly inverted for any length of time. I've used them in vintage FF models with radio assist that way. I now install them to be removable just because. A 1 oz short wedge tank flies my favorite PAW .09 longer than I can crank my neck back these days.

I got busted last night... my own fault! The case & crank had been through the ultrasonic cleaner, so I wasn't worried about oil smell.. but, you gotta remember to turn the oven off when you're done! oops..

I'm visiting in Hattiesburg Mississippi, and stumbled upon an old nearly defunct Hobby shop. Inside in a box were 5 Perfect Wedgie tanks. 2 are #16's which are the little 1/6oz tanks, and 3 are the #3 tanks which are 3/4 oz. These are in the light green boxes, and the tanks and boxes are in great shape. I'm posting some photos of them. Any one need one or two?
