The Shrike has to be the coolest looking ready to run anything made by anyone! I never wanted to do more than look at it. II were to get one, it would have to be the yellow Bonneville Special made a little earlier than yours.
The engine looks pretty rough on yours, what are your plans for it? Does it even turn over? Just asking, I don't need another Baby Bee!

When I was much younger, I bought a black Shrike with RC steering from the JC Penney Christmas catalog. Ended up taking it back for a refund when the plastic snap starter broke on one of the first runs. I didn't know that it was an easily replaceable 50C part. We had no local hobby shops and my dad wasn't very happy about me "wasting" all my money on such junk. What I wouldn't give to have that car back now. All the ones I've seen on the net lately are tether cars. Does anyone remember the RC version?

There must be lots of good stories of how these RTF plastic models affected our lives. My older brother and I grew up in the 60's way out in the boonies. There were model airplane clubs, but 30+ miles away. So the Cox stuff was what taught us about gas powered models.
Our first exposure to Cox was a birthday gift to my brother in 1965, a Jim Hall Chaparral race car. My 'job' was to be at the far end of the string, and after the car got to the end of the run, I was to push down on the car to stop the engine. I was 7 years old and terrified. Those cars are FAST!! We had fun with that car, running it on a straight line, and tethered. I eventually got past my fears and became a pretty good pit crew. Later when I turned 10, my folks bought me my first gas plane, a PT-19. I've been modeling ever since.

I saw an r/c Shrike on E-bay New In Box go for over $250.00 awhile back. It seems the Shrikes r/c and even non r/c bring in quite a few bucks. Speaking of Shrikes, anyone know where I can find a new canopy? The one I have on mine needs to be replaced.

Shawn, yours is also missing the protective propeller gaurd made of aluminum, The yellow ones did not have this feature.

I attribute my real start in aeromodeling to the Cox PT-19 as well; my dad bought me one at a P.X. in Belgium sometime in the late sixties. The airplane has been through several changes and at that time, the airplane had a Babe Bee w/ metal tank mounted to a plastic firewall. Therefore, it could readily be used in other airframes if the original became unusable. I had a few Cox and Testors products; all of them were well engineered and could be flown/operated successfully if you had the experience. My favorite of all was the Testors BD-5: really a technological marvel for a RTF gas plane and it flew well. The airplane featured a drive shaft to a pusher prop and snap-in wing panels. I broke one of the wing panels, not flying it but cleaning it! Here's some brouchures that bring back fond memories...

If you have enough material to make another Shrike Prop Guard, I'll buy it from you to go on my new Red one that is missing the guard.
Also, I got the Visible V-8 from Sears for Christmas and it took about 2 days to build. Took it to school and got an "A" at the 9th Grade Science Fair. Great fun ...............

Make it for a turbo plug instead, fitting a regular plugs seem to give a substantial loss power (but Mecoa etc. will not admit to that) while the turbo ones will give you a performance that is similar to the stock head.
