The chassis is a rock, I've broken minor pieces like others in here have and no more.  The weaknesses of the truck are the electronics and the drive cups have been breaking and wearing quickly.     A friend of mine has one and he broke it a lot at first but I think it was a fluke, he's been having better luck since then.

I've done some reading up on the XS and I'm thinking about picking one up in the next few weeks or so to get back into RC after a few year break. I see that you need to immediately upgrade the servo and do something about the steering links. Neither of those are really a big deal since upgrades aren't expensive. I've also been told that I need to get CVDs and aluminium shocks. Are both of those really ''needed''?
There is nothing wrong with the stock shocks and dog bone axles. I have been running everything stock on both mine and my son's XS's and haven't had any issues until he cartwheeled his into a fence causing one of the steering links to pop off in the grass and we couldn't find it.

I agree, im running all stock and about 5 packs in and i just broke my first part today, a rear upright cracked while it was cartwheeling like an olympic gymnast. I do wanna replace the steering servo though with the Traxxas #2075.....

the front tbone bumper really helps mitigate the damage from doing cartwheels. Since installing it I havent had any issues with my xs apart from scratches on the tbones and thats on2 metre cartwheels on pavement doing speed runs

I saw the picture with the max battery tray dimensions on the first page and was wondering what the biggest (mah wise) 2S lipo from hobbyking I could fit. Would search for one myself but there's the whole their measurements aren't always accurate...

Toadz is the best price I could find.   They give two of the same sway bars with each kit.  I assume its a spare because it will wear.  It isn't two different tensions which I thought at first.

Any of you guys raise the ride height up with the shock adjustments, or just ride stock? I figured raising it up would help with bottoming out but it tips easier.

Alright guys, I ran a few packs through the truck today and it did well. But after a while the motor would cogg horibly and not move at all unless I gave it a push start. Other times it would do just fine, maybe like its getting to one spot on the motor and doesnt know which way to spin.

I put a muchmore racing fan on the esc that moves 5cfm compared to the 2cfm factory fan and the temps outside are like 30s to 40s but the motor was never hot and the esc wasnt hot either. What do you all think would be causing this problem?

Just might run the esc till it stops send it for replacement, spin it on ebay, then get a sc8 or something.

Other than that problem it was fun as heck cart wheeled te ting into the back of the neighbors truck and only broke a shock bottom, if it would have been my mini revo it wouldnt have made it I dont think lol. Also the servo is a joke cant keep it straight at any speed it seems so a traxxas 2075 is on the way.

I'm almost afraid to buy the RTR simply because I feel that I'm going to have to go through the hassle of replacing the ESC. Are most of the stories of the ESC going bad just with the earlier ones or is it still an issue with more recently manufactured ones?

Must still be having some issues, I just got mine a week ago and today was the first day I used it, and its starting to show some potential ESC problems.  Its a great kit besides the esc though!!

Really starting to think I should go with the SS kit even though it's more than I want to spend up front, pretty sure it would save me money and stress in the long run.

I would buy the  reg xs strip and sell the extra parts and put that toward the stuff you want.  229 for a ss roller kinda high to me

I was thinking about that also would probably sell:
The ESC (only plug in to make sure it doesn't instantly die)
The servo
The tires/rims

Want to get a pair of the Mashers because the stock ones are too small looking and from what I've read the mashers help with breakage and have more grip overall.

Not sure what ESC I would replace with though. Possibly a VXL from eBay...

Can get:
$50 or so for the ESC judging from eBay auctions
$25-30 or so for the tires/rims
Probably would have to giveaway the servo lol

So the money from selling is probably going to be enough or the servo and turnbuckles.

Then I still need to buy a new servo and ESC.

Kit kinda sounds good again at this point lol

I would stay away from a vxl esc with the 4 pole motor you would be better off with this http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...F1%5F5%5F.html

I have used those esc's and they are great and cheap.

unbelievable!
i try to open up the transmission to fix a pinion gear and in the process noticed 4 stripped screws!!! HPI needs to invest in better screws or something. The hex holes are larger than the 2mm hex driver and not big enough for 2.5mm!!! wat is that?!

first one was the servo/transmission/engine case screw (the one in the cavity!)
second one was a servo holder screw
and the last 2 were the transmission screws!!! how am i supposed to open the transmission when the screws are PRE-stripped! HPI better do something about this! This is my first HPI truck and already disappoints...

anyone else having problems with screws?

I haven't had any stripped screws yet and I have had the tranny out many times and drove in lots of snow.
