RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Thanks and it is true you should always gear for temps , quite honestly I am not so familiar with these castle 4 pole motors , I used there other 2 poles and the 1/8th and 1/5th size castle motors. I am thinking the 4 poles should be better with heat. I will throw a heatsink and fan if I do have problems but I always watch my temps using a infared temp checker .

Nitro-Rob has done some testing between the 4 pole and older 2 pole motors and the 4 poles have alot more torque and run alot cooler. Where as the old 2 pole motors seem to have more top end speed.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Pretty big difference between the 2 and 4-pole motors with regards to temperature. It seems that the 4-poles could go up 2-3 teeth compared to the 2-poles. The torque difference is very noticeable and speeds were close but I remember the 2-pole having a very slight edge with the same gearing.
I assume the 4000 kv motor in the XS is similar enough to the castle SCT 3800 which I have running in a couple of trucks already. I am swapping out the XS's ESC with a mamba max pro from another truck and may go all the way and swap in the SCT 3800 motor as well.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
I must say I don't run 10th scale at the moment I did for years but when I did I really liked the castle 2 pole motors so I am excited to try a 4pole. I guess I am safe being it's a 4pole going up a few teeth on the pinion. Only thing I can say from what I read about the xs so far that I don't like is the battery tray , seems I may not be able to use allot of my packs and I heard the shocks are plastic. I had 4 slash 4x4s in the past few months , one stock and a few with a mamba monster and 2650kv castle motor and 2200kv , this is going to be my replacement for those and I really hope it handles better or at least aswell. I luved them but I just needed a change , I usually switch my rides up every few months and always hang on to my really expensive cars. Anyone have a few more pics?I want to swap for the mm pro also but the only problem is I wanna beat this rig , take it in the snow , rain , mud ect and the pro is not waterproof. Only other system that is , is the vxl's by traxxas and I hated those .

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
This is my benchmark:
I run the SCT motor in a firestorm with a 35C 5000 mAh 3s battery and mamba max pro. Its geared to run in the 50's and the motor has temps in the 140-150 range in 90F weather if the truck is driven really hard for a full pack. Its 3-4 pinion teeth away from heat being a problem. I imagine it will be harder to push a 4x4 so to do 65 the savage XS is going to be working hard.
I guess 65 mph is obtainable but not sustainable? Anyone can go any speed for a short time but when I hear a speed posted I assume you can bash and drive with that gearing for a full pack without a meltdown, especially for commercial specifications and mass release.
I am saying this and don't have the truck yet so I will shut up.

20C, though, that battery will get warm.

Yeah a 20c should be fine for the savage but a little more could not hurt. Now if your using a mamba monster esc 25c and up is a must most of the time. I'm surprised the firestorm gets that hot , isn't a 2wd and lite weight? Have you tried a heatsink and fan , well with the xs I'm gonna try it bc I really don't need a wheelie machine right off the bat. I wanna be able to hit the throttle and take off without the wheelies or back flips but of course I'll try them at first . My larger size savage flux back flips on 4s even with the higher pinion for the 65+ claimed top speed. That thing is just a beast.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Ok, so I'm trying to figure out which lipos will work for it, considering the battery box is 143mmx47mmx31mm
As far as 2s lipos, almost all of the standard 2s lipos will work, even 2s race hardcase packs that use bullet plugs in the case itself, as long as you use 90 degree bullet plugs.
Here's a nice Turnigy 6000mah 2s 25c hardcase lipo 132x45x29mm $27: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=19169
For 3s, I've been looking on HK to see what will work. I've come up with these:
Turnigy 3s 30c 3600mah lipo 137x42x22mm $26: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dproduct=14966
Zippy 3s 30c 4000mah harcase lipo 137x47x32mm $29 (I'm really interested if we could get this one too fit, best specs I've found so far and hardcase): http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dproduct=16769
20c Version too $27: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dproduct=16767
Zippy 3s 30c 5000mah hardcase lipo 137x46x32mm $37(Even better? 5000mah?! Maybe a typo on the dimensions, but i would go to some lengths to make this fit.) http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=16770
20c version $31: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=16768
I coming from my knowledge of 1/8 e buggy (racing) the 3s won't need as high a c rating as the 2s. I'm willing to bet 20c will be fine for 3s and 30c for 2s.
IMO, I want this thing to do standing backflips and be really torquey. That's what made my Flux and MERV so much fun. I also doubt temps will be a problem, considering it's a 4 pole and it has 1/10 electronics for a smaller truck.
As far as upgrades, I plan on picking up some Blitz ESE Shocks for it, those things were the best 1/10 shocks I have ever used. Super smooth, easy to build, and they didn't leak. Aluminum shock bodies, caps, adjusters, and tini shafts. I'm also going to pick up some sway bars (made a big difference on the flux), a Traxxas 2075 waterproof servo on ebay for $15, and some 2.2 st wheels with Proline Masher 2.2 tires and Proline Badlands 2.2 tires.
As far as wheels, I'm trying to figure out if any st wheels have offset to the to make it more stable. I'm sure it will have all the turning it needs regardless. Anyone know if some wheels have more offset than others?

Thats how hot it runs in a light 2wd. That setup doesn't run that much hotter in the blitz with slightly shorter gearing. Remember the conditions are high speed as much as possible until low voltage cutoff. If I am playing and driving normally the temps are 20-30F lower. Heatsinks and fans help a little but none have held up to the abuse from the nearby wheelie bar (the only place to mount it) so far.

I have a large stock of these rims around: http://www.hpiracing.com/piw4.php?part=3094
and plan on using them for the savage XS (when it arrives). It doesn't say the offset but I am guessing its about 1-1.5cm. IWhat is the tire profile height? Are they regular 2.2 inch tires (~4.2 inch) or the taller style?
I agree on the ESE shocks being smooth. If they are the right size I may try them but I've also been thinking of the proline SC shocks.

the 70-103mm blitz shocks are the ones used on the xs- so the 70-103mm ese shocks will be perfect replacements. lots of springs and tuning options too.

Ok thanks for the clarification on that , I just ordered a 34t 48p for it when it comes , 50+ is fast enough for this little guy.

sorry for the confusion
the stock gear is actually pretty fast, but will be good to see how it goes with your 34t

I am very intrested in seeing how the temps are when running the XS.
