Well after getting my truck all put back together after fixing the stripped out gears in the transmission, I got a whole 10 minutes of driving in today before my whole front differential stripped out. After taking it appart I see one of the bearings was completely shattered, obviously causing the stripped gears. I really hate those super thin bearings with the tiny balls, they may be much lighter, but they never last long. I guess this is probably what was causing this thing to turn to the right so much when coasting.

He is referring to the chinese motor that people were talking about before. Its actually a 380 motor with a heat sink that makes the overall can size similar to a 540 so people think its a bigger motor than it is.

After I took appart my diff, I noticed 3 little teenie tiny washers that are not shown anywhere in the manual or diagrams, and I can't remember where they came from. Has anyone seen anything like that in their diff?

The XS has a 540 sized motor with 540 sized can and all that good stuff. Reads thread on RCMonster that said it was similar to the Castle 1410 3800kv motor just cheaper made since they are mass produced. Take that with a gain of salt though...

On the top of this page this motor was proposed as a replacement for an XS.

http://www.hobbypartz.com/26p-blcomb...2r-3300kv.html

Its a 380 not like the XS's 540.

The XS comes with a VEKTOR 4000 motor which is a 540 size.

Any 540 sized motor is a direct fit.

Hi guys,

I'm a lipo noob, and I would like to start my lipo experice with the savage XS.
Can you guys recommend good lipo charger? I would like to get something that will handle bigger lipos too once i start having more lipo cars..

And would this lipo pack do ok with the XS? http://www.hobbypartz.com/98p-30c-53...se-direct.html

I would probably pick up charger and power supply on hobbyking.com or any rc online stores that ships Canada.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

That battery *should* fit. Might have a little trouble with needing to bend the wires a little to get them to exit the stock location but nothing as bad as what I have to do to my Turnigy lipo...

I did some heavy bashing during the weekend at a local park. no broken parts but got really dirty with mud and sand. really love how its waterproof, just use jet stream on my garden hose to wash the dirt away and air compressor to dry it up.

just wondering if the Venom's V540 3300kv+80A Waterpoof ESC Combo will work on the xs.

I had to pay $60 to ship from Canada to California. They told me there is nothing they could do about the shipping since I was from Canada.

Well i called HPI. The guy said he cant guarantee it, but he said an average turn around is 2-3 weeks in the US. Shipping should only be anywhere between $8-12 for the esc i think. I shipped a Bandit vxl in the origional box for $30 standard ground so it shouldnt be that expensive. Crossing my fingers it wont get lost!

Now for you guys that have recieved an esc back from HPI, was it your origional one fixed, or was it a new one?

I've always wanted to own and build an RC truck, this little thing looks to be tons of fun! However I think I'm out of my depth; this would be my first RC truck so I'm a little bewildered with all the options regarding motors, ESCs and batteries.  Would someone be willing to give me a list for each including a budget option, a recommended option and a borderline overkill option? I hope to be able to divine gear selections from this.

However the real worry is the list of things I've read on various forums suggesting what "needs" to be replaced (apart from t9dragons).  So far the list includes:
 - Wheels and Tyres (Badlands seem to be the most recommended replacement)
 - Turnbuckles (I'm not sure what these are, let alone why I should be replacing them)
 - Steering servo (Not included in SS kit, but most people say stock isn't up to the job.  Am I right in thinking Traxxas does an upgraded plug andplay option?)
 - Gearing
 - Lots of slop to be shimmed in the diff, axles and shocks (Is this usual?)
 - Replacement shock ends (RPM mentioned .. is this a brand or model?)
 - Diff cup wear

Is this truck a Bad Idea for a first timer?

I would say the XS SS is fine for a first timer as long as you do your research, which you have.

I'm personally going with the Castle Creations Mamba Max Pro SCT combo because the motor is the higher quality version of the stock motor and the ESC is way overkill so it should be the last thing I have to worry about.

As for the turnbuckles people replace them because the steering ones have a habit of popping off way too easily. Just from building my SS I can already tell they are going to be an issue because from a 3ft. drop with no electronics installed one popped off...

Hey Elcee. Being that it is a truck that was built and still trying to be perfected, it is assumed a new rc will have flaws. designs will be better and updated, and stronger parts will be made. Badlands are a better tire, an upgraded servo is required if you want one. but i've never had any other problems other than the esc just crapping out on me.

if this will be your first truck thenthe RTR Savage XS is good enough then replace parts is it breaks. but since you want to build it from ground up then your list isgood.you may want to consider Powerstrokes shocks, tbone bumpers and also XS sway bar kit
