3s and 4500kv works just fine, that can get you in the 40's and makes a really cool sound when it wizzes past you.

i wouldnt go much higher than 55,000rpm.

For those of you wanting a higher speed out of your MR you don't need to get all bat sh*t crazy & buy brushless systems and lipo batteries. I purchased a Pro Pulse high speed motor offa ebay & its just as fast as my brushless RC18. Plus the battery lasts longer.

agreed, they are pretty fast out of the box with brushed. bout 20mph or so.

i have a mild setup with a outrunner, and with a 1800mah batt i get about 40minutes out of it and does about 33 on 2s.

Default RE: HPI Mini Recon

just ran it sheesh is it a hell of a lot faster now. My tires are ballooning on it. Clipped a fence post due to my steering servo giving out going full speed, snapped the front shock tower in half, and broke the front a-arm too(oddly it didn't break completely)
the hit was so hard it even ripped my BL ESC off the RC that I had zip tied down.

I'm tempted to just cut my own shock tower out of some scrap aluminum 3mm sheets I have laying around.

Heres pics of how I had it setup prior to the run

Edit: The hit was so hard I didn't realize till now that destroyed the rim of the tire on the side I slammed too [:@]

Edit2: HOLY CRAP I might just buy a 2nd mini recon, and save this one for parts. I added up the damage, and for replacement parts (not counting the rim) I would be paying over $60(not counting shipping)... I think I might have to stop recommending recons due to cost of replacement parts. A set of 4 A-arms for my 1/8th scale truggy cost less than the set for this thing...

Bummer, sorry it's broken!

Where are you getting parts for it? I can't find spares anywhere but just use parts (or upgrades!) from a different car like RC18, Mini T, Propulse etc.

actually that was my plan already got the megatech manual most the parts look exact honestly only thing that looks different is the bumper in the manual I found lol

Getting a RC18b on saturday so I can see if the parts are a 1:1 match

Also tower has parts, and one hobby shop on ebay I deal with pretty often (they are a few bucks less per part than tower, and they are not a chop shop). If I went by towers prices on the hpi parts I'd be close to $75

thats a complete rip, go through megatech or propulse.

the rc18 and recon have actually very little in common, dogbones, wheels and hubs, shocks. thats about it, they are both simmilar, but upper deck, steering parts, shock towers, arms, diff covers are different.

you can BUY a rebuilt propulse for $40 like i did. im not sure hpi is a mirror image, but it sure looks like it.

was looking at that about the RC18
well I do need a dog bone not about to pay $26 (yes $26) for a seto of them from HPI... seen a set of CVD's for the RC18b that I might get if the dogbones the same size on the one I get. Also hoping I can just swap the diff cover.

Edit: just downloaded and looked at the RC18 manual... Guess I'll see how much megatech charges forthe parts or just fashion my own shock tower

tell me about it they are basically off setting the price of a insanely cheap RTR with insanely overpriced parts... Seriously if it costs almost as much as the truck to replace parts that commonly break together there is something wrong with the pricing

found a place selling the mega pro for $60 rtr...
the place also sell the spare parts for it from them the magical $18 HPI shock tower becomes $7 for the set of them, and they have a pack of 6 arms for like $10 instead of HPI's $25 they don't seem to sell the axles though . Only thing that will cost me is the replacement tires so I might hold off, and see if I can find the hex mod so I can run 12mm hex's on it so I can slap a set of mini slash rims on it(have em laying around, and there like 3mm's larger diameter) or something better .

I'm pretty sure they are, Those rims & nuts are actually off that POS Monster XX 1:16 that came out last year. The hex's pop on over the axel pins jus like any other car & then jus put the rims on over that & sinched down the nut. I'm glad I only paid $30 for the MXX, I thought it would be rad since the 1:10 was so good. Worst RC I ever bought. A pull of the trigger & it would it would zip off @ 20 mph in any random direction. Fortunately I could use the wheels & body on the MR so it wasn't a complete waste.

I just got the Recon for my 7 yr old son - can anyone tell me how to limit the speed until he gets comfortable with the controls? Or if it is even possible. thanks in advance!

taping a piece of foam behind the trigger is the easiest way

I wouldn't worry too much about him breaking it though with the stock ESC I hit a quite a few things with no damage. It actually bounces off hits quite well. My hit was more of one of those freak whacks where one part took an extremely concentrated hit(hit the edge of a wrought iron gate at speeds way higher than it was designed for that would total pretty much anything
That particular gate has actually damaged a few RC's of mine [:@]

BTW judging from the damage I had I will say the shocks are top notch seeing the shaft didn't bend in the slightest the shock tower it self shattered instead

stevenkelby
http://www.rchobbyexplosion.com/MEGA...p/mtsv-107.htm
don't know how good they are, but they have been around awhile I remember hitting their page a few times in the past years searching for the off name RC's that people asked where to find parts for. They also have like every part
hmm I guess I can just use my merv's hex's then... Might as well seeing its not getting any use of them

EDIT: cause I don't feel like doing a new post
Found my drive shaft just went walking for the hell of it figuring no way in hell I would find it(cause I wasn't sure where it hit), and when I glanced at one point I saw it sitting there
So there goes a heaping helping of the repair costs there

ahh the servo turning headlights on trick use that in 2 of my RC's
was wondering at 1st what that servo was for till I noticed the LEDs in front

BTW if you want to make it simpler, and know how to solder PCB's http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1210 works quite well, and is a fair bit smaller than the servo I got one for my crawler, and one spare just sitting around
