hello i have been out of mini rc for a while now, nut today i decided to rebuild my rc 18t and i need a new esc, i was trying a long time ago to hook up my intellispeed 12t modified that i had taken form my 1/10 scale truck. that just led to my motor over heating in a mere few seconds. i had once had a novak esc that was for mini mods but it burnt up after about a week of using it. so what would be some of my options? also i am using intellect 1400 6-cell battery packs.

first i would check my gearing. then make sure the drive line spins freely and has no resistance . the 1/10 esc you tried to use should have worked fine. if you are running the 17t motor a stock associated 1/18th esc will work fine . hope that helps
