Default RE: Official Mini-T Thread

Hello all,
My first time posting in this thread. I've had my Mini-T since '04 or '05 (I've had it for a while, so I don't remember exactly how long I've had it). I currently run a Dynamite 1500 NiMh pack, Trinity Monster motor, ball bearings, ball diff, oil shocks, Associated ESC (the one for the RC18 series), Spektrum DX3 radio system, and an HS-55 servo. I've been thinking about doing further upgrades to it, so I started browsing around on here and found this thread. I only read about the first 6-7 pages since my internet here is too slow to let me read through 181 pages.

I love my Mini-T. It's pretty much always there for me when I want to run something. It's quick (wouldn't call it fast), fairly durable, and fun to drive. Heck, I've had this thing longer than any other RC I've EVER owned, and I've owned quite a few.

Anyway, I'm about to get back from overseas and I'm looking to repair and upgrade my RCs. The Mini-T is one of those on the block. I'm thinking about getting the Integy aluminum full upgrade kit, Losi CVD kit, JR Sport SM22 servo (a bit faster and stronger than the HS-55, if there's a better "drop in" fit for the aluminum chassis kit, I'm open to suggestions. Maybe an MG servo.), a Polyquest 1600mah 2S 18C LiPo (from Hobby King), and a Losi Xcelorin 9400Kv motor/ESC combo (I looked at the Castle 8000kv, but I figured if the Losi is a decent quality system, I'll save the $10-$20 and get the higher Kv. I am open to suggestions as long as Pros and Cons can be provided.). After reading the Xcelorin manual, I'll get the 9T-11T pinion set and play around with them to see which one works best. I don't race it, but I do enjoy a fast truck. Any thoughts on my proposed upgrades?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts. Later.

Shannon

fast!... happy with it but I will have to go Lipo to get the punch... As fare as Servos, I went the Hitec route, but had to buy a new servo saver.

I also tore up the teeth on my aluminum spur gear, it does not make any since, I am running a plastic gear on aluminum. Any Ideas?

here's a question, mamba 25, (old style, first version) running 13T pinion, 60T spur, 1600 3 cell lipo 8000kv motor- the strange thing is the esc gets hot with little work. i dont even drive three laps, around my frontroom, and the esc is warm, and if i go forward+reverse with braking the esc will thermal shutdown(servo tape comes unstuck) i ran it with a 2 cell before and spun the tires off the rims with no trouble, but now i have this heat issue. could initial power set to medium be too much? this has got me stumped.

tomst
the hitec hs 55 is a good servo over stock and yes you will need another servo saver to fit it

that is really weird (shouldent happen at all)

my first thought was the motor gets too hot and transfers the heat to the pinion, but if this is true is should have also melted the spur.
next time you run your mini tell me the temp of the motor(it could have also been a rock that got in the tranny)

i dont have a mini-t but its basicly the same thing as the e-firestorm so i should be able to help out alot.

Hey, its been a while since I posted here nice to see the thread still going strong.

Everett good to see you enjoying the truck. Not sure if you ruled it out but your mesh may not of been set right. If the mesh isnt right youll keep chewing gears up.

Did you figure your problem out? I'm just curious because I just got a 25 with a 8000kv motor and I'm going to get a 3s. I am currently running a 2s but I don't have any metal pinions that fit so I can only run for a few minuites till the plastic one pops off but I don't have any heat issues. I'm going to order some tonight since lhs is useless. Anyways I would try setting all the settings on the esc to the lowest setting via the castlelink if you have it and try a smaller pinion or larger spur. 8000kv is a very hot motor so running 3s maybe pushing the envelope a little. This is just based off my experience with my mamba max 5700 system in my 1/10th scale truck though since like I said I just got my 25 in my mini-t. lmk what you find out.

My questtion's are:
1.) does anybody run the optional ball diffs and if so are they any better then the stock for a bl system?
2.) I see that the ht55 works but is there any good high torque metal gear servo/servo savers that will just drop in?

the optional diffs are a must have...i tore the factory one out in 6 runs on the og motor/esc...i put the mip ball diff in and never had a problem...it went thru a reedy sp19..a 4700kv 370 size brushless..and then the mamba 25 with c4 dynamite 9200 kv motor..it held up perfectly and i kept it locked down(i love posi!!)

i agree with 1fastsob ball diffs are a must on any rc car or truck ... night and day difference. easy to tune, lasts forever, and improove the handeling of the car.

What would be a good pinion gear to start with using castle 25 esc, a castle 8000kv motor, stock spur, and stock wheels. I'd like to know what would be good for 2s and then also another for 3s without overworking anything and creating excessive heat?

PS Thanks for the input guys! I will order a ball diff. I've never used one in any of my rc's before actually and never really had a problem but I'll give it a shot.
