Driftin the Micro
So I got my Micro Rs4 kit put together, dropped in a Losi 5-cell and HPI upgraded motor, wrapped the tires in tape and painted up a sweet Panda Trueno. Crap! This thing is so fun in the basement! I've been trying to link drifts but my basement is kind of small so it takes work. I'll get some ABS pipe today and get rid of the tape. Anyone else out there drifting micros? I'm totally new to electric, being a 1/10th nitro tourer, but I think I need some heat sinks, this motor is hot. Any tips stories advice w hatever is appreciated. n

RE: Driftin the Micro
I tried wrapping mine in tape....proved to uncontrolable on our laminated floor Even the stock tires are rather slick.Of course i have a 45t modified in there so that dosent help....Might have to try pvc on the cement though...Sounds fun

RE: Driftin the Micro
i tried a bit of tape on the wheels of my mini-z and found it just spun out all the time i think you need 4wd to drift because the front wheels will hold enoght for it to be driveable

RE: Driftin the Micro
First of all, mad_taffy, you are correct, thats why the micro rs4 drifts well, it is 4wd.
I have a 45 turn motor and the tape works great, its a great balance of enough grip to get speed up but not enough to keep it from getting loose. Watch out though! If you drift a few turns consecutively and then get grip suddenly, the car will take off like a rocket. Fun to watch, the main wall of my basement is bare insulation roll so it's great padding.
As for stance, I'm using the second widest stance in back an d third in front but thats mostly to look cool with the AE-86 body. It's also important to mount the battery so as to counter-balance the full size servo, if you don't the car will drift one way easier than the other.io

Is there a brushless micro motor? Don't you have to get a different ESC also? I still don't really get this electric stuff. ?"

RE: Driftin the Micro
I use my m18, totally stock, with the rubber wheels in the hall of my appartment
great fun!!! gumballs for the race and rubber tyres for drifting when i'm bored, it's just big enough for here. a friend of my tried it with a 1:10 and slammed it into the mirror that is attatched in the corner[]
seven years of bad luck for him!!...
what kind a tape do you use on the streets?
sorry for the bad typing, i'm from holland (like that is an excuse)

RE: Driftin the Micro
i've been trying to 'drift it' for a while..
i love corollas =) hehehe.. i have a new body as well!
ill snap pix for u =)
i use the eletric tape technique..been doing it for years!
what kinda PVC pipe are u using.. i really wanna try that..
as for brushless.... u should just get the
TEAM ORION MOD ELITE motor.. its badass..
very torquey.. good for countersteering and fast throttle response
to control you slide.

RE: Driftin the Micro
Wrap your tires in electrical tape, I can get mine to drift like crazy...
And with electrical tape you can actually use higher gears because you don't need as much power to break free, this leaves more speed and I think make sit easier to control.

RE: Driftin the Micro
yes there are a few micro brushles motors for it, for any brushless u need a brushless speed control, brushless motors have 3 wires. and your novak or stock has 2 etc....

RE: Driftin the Micro
Along with the micro rs4 i also purchesed the micro hybrid 540 conversion kit and with a 27 turn motor not only do you get speeds of 40mph+ you also get insane drifts i use the stock tyres cause i have too much power for them to handle!!!

RE: Driftin the Micro
I just got a M18. I'm gonna do some drifting with it. I think I'm going to put the PVC on the inner rims. So I don't have to buy more rims. The PVC I'm gonna use is the white 3/4 I think. I'll need to sand out the middle a bit first to get it to fit.
