My mini lst clipped off 41mph tonight
installed the mamba x package this afternoon along with a thunder power 1900 LiPo.
first charge netted an avg mph of 36 and a peak recorded mph of 41. this is with a bushnell radar gun.
using stock spur gear, 24t pinion, mamba 8k motor set to 'normal' timing advance and 'low' starting power in the speed control options.
i also upped the shock oil from 25 to 45 to combat some serious body roll i was getting under wide open steering corrections.
i'm completely amazed, its a little rocket ship!
i think maybe i'll do some video of it next time since i think its the record for the mini lst
next to try is the smaller spur gear, and the 25 tooth pinion. i'm out of pocketbook right now to try more voltage, plus i dont think a larger pack will fit without major mods.. these 3 cells fit wonderfully .. i'm pretty sure i can get 50 out of it!
i also added this neat little motor heatsink that the hs had for 2.99, had to cut one fin off
thanks goes to the forefathers that posted pics of their brushless and lipo set ups, they really helped out!

also fyi the lipo charger i bought is a e-flite selectra, a steal at 40 bux.

RE: My mini lst clipped off 41mph tonight
Why? the Aon as already tested by Troy at BPP doesnt give as high a top speed, sure it has the torque but that doesnt = top speed[&:]
MLST Turbo
Did you happen to check the temps of the mamba after running? I know its got plenty of RPM but torque is down on the higher revving motors. I would have thought that it might get a little hot, I know my 8000 mamba got hot as hell on 3 lipos in my mini-t with too steep a gearing ratio.

i have a aon 4900 on the way to test, also for only being on the 'normal' timing advance, this thing has a ***** ton of power, i think it will easily shatter the drivetrain if i floor it right from a stop, let alone if i turn it up.. this mamba 8000 is the hottest motor they sell from what i thought.
motor really didnt get hot, maybe you should check your drivetrain to make sure its rolling freely.

That thing cannot feel that stable during high speed runs? Those tires with the big lugs only have like 30% tread contact with the surface. Must have been squirrelly.
Must be a sight to see though! WOW!

i just ran it again and both spd control and motor were around 130*
i think the gearing may be too tall, bernie at mamba suggested i gear back down to stock and that i may be bogging the motor out and keeping it from winding all the way up, will update

That's what I tried to fit in but it is a little "tall". Then again, the one I tried is not new but even new I know they are slightly higher than the 6-cell NiMH. Anyway, I picked up some HPI body posts that I am going to try and use so I can raise the tray.

you have to raise the body posts about 1/8" and you have to grind a little on the chassis for the battery to nestle in.. but just that and this big bad battery fits in the stock location
yes i have to dial out a lot of steering because its very touchy that fast.. such short wheelbase.. i also went up to 45wt in the shocks to take out chassis roll

RE: My mini lst clipped off 41mph tonight
i talked to Joe at castle creations, and he said i probably would want to stick with the performance or competition package, and NOT to use 3 cell lipos with the competion...he said it would burn up the motor...He suggested staying away from the comp x. I had the comp x in a mini 18MT and the engine would get a little toasty, so i don't know what it would do in the bigger mini LST...i just thought i would throw that out there and see what some of you guys thought, and keep it posted!! I would rather learn from y'alls experiences if you burn up a $130 mamba than to buy and ruin one myself
the 18MT would smoke my buddies jato, t-maxx, as long as i could keep the wheels on the ground from the take off...that would be insane if the mini LST can be set up to blow the doors off of the 1/10 traxxas stuff...nothin' against traxxas, i'm a pround nitro rustler owner

well the mini lst geaing is diffrent its not the rpms of the motor that make it hot its the load on the motor. cause a x package is top rpm but little power so gear down a 2 or 3 teeth

So with the mini LST is 55+ feasible without ruining your truck or your ESC/motor setup? i think its possible with the comp x setup...is there any motors that will run better all around than the mamba's? If so...don't leave me in the darK!

RE: My mini lst clipped off 41mph tonight
it wont burn up the motors, what it will do is cogg like a sumbich.. maybe they want to cover that up?
mine coggs like a sumbich but the motor/speed control doesnt get hot and doesnt ''burn up'' lol.
on the other hand if you keep it rolling it goes FAST i'm going to try to top 41 tommorrow night.
i posted a vid on here allready http://media.putfile.com/mini-lst-brushless
my aon 4900 coggs too.. steven at aon is pretty certain it is in the speed control software, ill test that with the usb link thursday.

RE: My mini lst clipped off 41mph tonight
So i was looking up the AON 4900 and it seems that they are meant for aircraft? I'm pretty new to electric, meaning i'm not much for conversions and stuff...but from looking at it from my point of view, it would seem that the mamba 5900 or 6800 would be alot quicker than the AON 4900, even if you had to gear it down so that it didn't cog. And with the mamba packages, is it the motors that are different, or is it the ESC as far as performance is concerned.

nitro power, do you have the usb link or did you get one of the newer speed controls to get ahold of the revised software?

RE: My mini lst clipped off 41mph tonight
So what are the top speeds with the AON 4900? Obviously we can't get a 60mph MLST with the comp x (the mini t barely does that) so what does that leave us with? what is the best way to go fast.
