1/16 and 1/18 scale nitro offroad owners
I would like this thread to be in the positive interest of the subject.
I am somewhat of a collector of RC Cars, Trucks, Boats and planes. Currently I am very interested in the ACME NB16 (ARR). I can get it from Hong Kong for $160.00 USD plus $30.00 shipping. I like the look of this buggy alot. Also I don't like the look of the body on the Vulcan and I have heard some bad rumors about it, like one guys buggy keeps locking up for no apparent reason. I heard of another guys engine blowing out for no apparent reason and he was a nitro expert. I have also heard the front end has alot of slop. I also heard the header to motor seal (O'ring) leaks. Does any of you guys have the ACME NB16? Have you heard anythig about it? Does anyone know if the tires from a Kyosho Half 8 will fit any of these buggies? Do they need a special Glow ignitor? Do they need Special nitro fuel?
Thanks in advance for any help. Here is a couple of pictures of some of my favorite mini stuff.
PS Pictures from owners would be nice.

That sucks, all of the replies you guys posted got erased during the RC Universe Maintenance they were doing last night.
I just wanted to thank you guys for all of your replies, I was able to get some usefull information before it all got deleted.
When I receive my ACME 1/16 Nitro Buggy I will start a new thread if one is not already started by then and see how it goes and supply as much information as I can.
There is however one post that I did not get to read. There was one member who had one and was waiting on the two speed transmission to get back in stock. I asked him who he bought his from. He replied and before I could read the post it got deleted.
Also there was a member who asked me where I ordered mine from. Here is the link.
http://rc-mushroom.com/product_info....oducts_id=9981
I also told him that I had ordered lots of RC's from Hong Kong and have never had a problem getting the package. Sometimes it took a little long, like 5 weeks, but I always got it.
The ACME I ordered was a ARR not a RTR and it was $163.00 plus $38.00 for shipping. Reg shipping was $32.50 but I wanted it a little faster.
I also found out that the tires off of a Kyosho Half 8 would work on the ACME 1/16 and that is good news for me because I already have a spare set waiting to hit the dirt. Now I am looking for street tires for the buggy. Anyone know where to get those?

You have gotten me a little worried because i ordered a Vulcan and will be getting it today.
I have also heard that the Acme and the Vulcan are the same thing. In Europe it is called
Acme and in the US called Vulcan.

That might be true, but they look very different to me. At least the body does. Don't worry, anything thats wrong with it can be repaired. There is a very good review on a UK site that was posted in a reply in this thread, but since something happen to RCUniverses server, the replies in here were deleted, and I don't remember the thread.
Strange enough when the replies got deleted, my first entry was not.

RE: 1/16 and 1/18 scale nitro offroad owners
Take my post as a fact I'm not against any company but I should say the truth, I saw both models this week ( 15 cars) also I got my Vulcan from USA and I can judge based on my personal experience and what I saw.
NB16 exactly the same as Vulcan, but Vulcan made too many changes to make model more solid and durable by adding most of option aluminum parts and certingly the Vulcan are much more solid than NB16, both engine are same, it start easy without no problem also ideal easy.
Do never ever use 2 speed gear whatever for NB16 or Vulcan , I can't count how may destroyed after less than 2 min. using including mine, the spur gear are extremely lose and as soon as the gear shift, it destroy immediately. It is better to stay with original gears it is much solid , I used my Vulcan for 4 hours without any problem. I believe both company they aware about problem of 2 speed gear and they should take action.
The engine could be blowing out… yes … but with a reason…. the tank cover in both models never get completely sealed I believe this cause engine to get lean which leads to destroy the engine .. a great attention should be taken to ensure tank cover is tighten
YES, there is a slop in the Vulcan front but not to extreme as mentioned in pervious post, with little modification and very little investment , you can overcome this slop.
Vulcan header to motor seal (O'ring) leaks, it is completely true, I try everything to seal it but with no success , I hope owner of Vulcan can give me advise about this issue. Regarding NB16 leaks are much worth than Vulcan.
After using my Vulcan and I saw many Vulcan and NB16, I can say they are not a headache free models but with some modification they could be good … honestly with all problems I faced with Vulcan I enjoy driving it specially when you was with many other people racing the same model. But DO NEVER USE 2 SPEED GEAR.
The last point , Miwi faster than both NB16 and Vulcan, it is more expensive but it is headache free.

Irenaslavo, Yes indeed, thanks for the review. I will be submitting my own review also when I get to test mine. Just curious, Where did you see 15 cars? IF it is a local hobby shop, I would like their address and phone number for parts and upgrades. There is no hobby shops around me touching these 1/16 scale nitro buggies.

RE: 1/16 and 1/18 scale nitro offroad owners
Hi GRK 65, thanks for your post , I will use the model on Saturday and I will send another by Sunday.
I saw the car in track not in shops, I'm leaving in Paris and the 1/16 nitro models become popular , my car I got through one of my students he was in USA and he got it from IRC. In Paris there is too many shops selling NB16 and all parts available, the basic Vulcan and Vulcan SE are not existing in France and all owner got it from USA.
As HUW4027 mentioned the hobbypepole.net, are reputable company and you can order from them but I believe IRC established high price for basic Vulcan because it is identical to NB16 which have a lower price …. I believe IRC can manage to justify the high price of Vulcan SE due to many option parts they added but it will be difficult to justify high price between basic Vulcan and NB16.
My advise is to get NB16 and upgrade it up to your satisfaction using IRC option parts.
Another issue should be taken in consideration for any NB16 , Vulcan and Vulcan SE owner…. If you face problem with servos, you should check the remote control fist because the steering servo of my Vulcan SE stopped functioning probably ( the movement distance right and left become very very limited) and I discovered the problem came from the remote control and as soon try another remote control the servo start working perfectly.

RE: 1/16 and 1/18 scale nitro offroad owners
I bought my Vulcan from Larry's performance R/C in Sterling Heights, MI. $238.99 RTR. On their website they post list price but it says "call for price" I haven't had a chance to run it yet. The problem I've seen while setting up--throttle servo throw is too long and pulls the whole motor, tweaking the chassis. A good radio will fix this. I run a Lynx 3D in my nitro's but haven't ordered a rx for this one yet. The body definately has a trick to getting it on and off. Otherwise the buggy appears to be well built. I did notice on Larry's demo model that there was alot of nitro residue on everything. Hopefully the aluminum pipe and header will fix the leaking. Hobby People has them(the pipe) for $24.99, and they're stocking most of the hop ups.

Has anyone gotten hold of an XRay NT18T? If so, would you please give us your impressions, as well as the source?
Thanks. John Harkness (frantically trying to find one!)

RE: 1/16 and 1/18 scale nitro offroad owners
Things are working out great with my NB16. I have broke it in and everything is working fine except for that fuel leak. I found the leak to be coming from the plastic pipe that came stock. I ordered the aluminum pipe for the Vulcan and it fit perfectly, NO MORE LEAKS. I have installed the aluminum shock towers and wing mount. They were for the Kyosho Half8. They fit perfectly except for the hinge pin retainer was different, so I used a drop of Gorilla Glue to form a cap, and it worked perfectly. Now I don't have to worry about the hinge pins coming out. You can barely see the glue in the last picture. I used the Kyosho parts because I could not find the hop-up aluminum parts in blue. I could only find red and I don't like red. I have also installed street slicks that were made for the Kyosho Half8 and in case you were wondering, they fit perfectly. Here is a few pictures of my progress.
I saw the Mayhem Chaos in the LHS yesterday and boy let me say, it is CRAP. the arms are a joke. The stock arms on my NB16 are way BEEFIER than the stock ones on the Chaos. It is built way cheaper. I am very pleased with the NB16. GREAT QUALITY.

Thanks huw4027. Mine runs great on 20%. I read an article that said, "especially this little engine will last longer with 20%.
I run 30% in my LST2.
I bought 1/10 scale tire adaptors and I am getting ready to mount them. I will post pics when done.

I forgot to mention, they are by Hot Racing. Their web site is www.hot-racing.com. I checked it out and they are not listed under the Kyosho half 8. Probably just have to search through all the likely subjects.
Here you go.
