You don't have to do anything... just drive. If you'd really like, you could disassemble everything afterwards and clean, but it won't do much.

well it's just every time i do drive it in dirt the dirt gets stuck in the motor and it changes the pitch of the motor and slows it down.is that normal or a problem.

Get this. http://www.drivenpro.net/index.php?s=store&pn=101 I run in lose dirt and gravel and have killed a 280 motor and a 370 from the little bits of sand and rocks that get in the gears. It will save you alot of money.

Never put anything over the motor unless it's a heatsink. It'll just create excess heat and lessen it's life. The gear cover is all you need. And always have spare spur gears on hand. Even if rocks don't get in there, they will wear eventually, and there's nothing worse than waiting for a measly sub $5 part to arrive in the mail.

To me its some thing that is needed for the RC18T. Since it has no gear cover at all. I have ruined a few motors from just a small pebble wearing out the bearing or busting a large number of spurs. The gear cover from DP is a high quality and easy to install. When i get my camera back i will post some pics of it on my truck. But if you want to save your self from costly repairs down that road, i would get one. And while your at it get the hop-up for the steering that they offer. Its a NOTICABLE diffrence.

I have had nothing but a good experiance with DP with the gear cover and the drag link. Alot less slop in the steering with it.

You might, it depends on where you are running it, i run mine on grass, pavement and sometimes gravel and i dont have many problems, sometimes i get dirt in the spur[:@]
