rc18mt diff slipping
my rc18mt's diff seems to be slipping, i have it pretty much stock (stock motor ESC batteries) and the gold ourdrive rings and 2 shims in each diff. yet the still slipp and grind under load (taking off hard, breaking hard, going from reverse to forward, climbing dirt hills or going over little rocks) its pretty loud and i know it cant be good, anyone have any ideas would could be causeing this or how to fix it?

RE: rc18mt diff slipping
Many times an extra shim or two needs to be added to the diffs to get them shimmed correctly (I run 3 shims instead of 2 in both of my RC18's).
Manufacturing tolerances are not great on plastic parts and some diff cases are a little wider than others. Also switching to aluminum differential/gear cases will help a lot since they won't flex like the plastic ones do.

RE: rc18mt diff slipping
the pinion and the gear on the differential might be stripped. you might also have to rebuild it because it might be out of grease. my rc18mt had all those problems and i fixed it by changing all the gears except for the spur, rebuilding the diff and putting the shims on. problem solved.
wookie, which side do you put the shims on cause i forgot.

RE: rc18mt diff slipping
The shims go on the back side of the ring gear (opposite side of the teeth).
Some of the RTR's will do it straight out of the box. Mine did, especially when braking. Some models will require more shims than others.

I had the same problem I replaced every thing and then I posted a message and found out 1 I had the shims on the wrong side and 2 I need the third shim. It fixed the noise.

RE: rc18mt diff slipping
i opened it up and found out that the 2 front differential gears are a-bit rounded off, so i droped the $2.99 and got some off eBay, but untill i get them, i just lossend up the diff and lubed it up with some grease for my paintball gun and it seems to work pretty good.
