RE: transmitter/radio batteries?
Most of the higher end radio systems use battery packs. But pretty much all the other radio systems use AA batteries. All of my radios use AA batteries and they work just fine. Since you are new to r/c I'm guessing that you will get a RTR car/truck, and the radio system that it comes with will more than likely use AA batteries.

Just buy rechargable NiMh's and chargers to go with them. It will save you a lot of money in the end, but be an up front investment.

i use rechargable nimh's in my 18t radio (stock), but the stock 18t radio can use a battery pack or 8 AA's.
