RE: official mini quake thread
I got the SE for $100.
Futaba "package" that includes the pistol grip radio, ESC (with brake), servo and Rx for $80ish
VR3 brushed can motor $13 makes it plenty fast.
I have all LiPo. 2S200 pack is $18.
Half dozen steering knuckles at $6 and/or free replacement from Duratrax and ready to run and rip.
Modified the steering knuckles with a 2x10mm screw and haven't had one brake since.
Great little truck for $200. Cool and fast and strong.
Little RTR Vendetta for $170 might be better. Just as fast. Easier to drive (lower CG). Everything included and built already. Doesn't break as easy...hell man, doesn't break at all. Buy yourself a couple extra sets of tires if you get the Vendetta. It runs so nice and strong and fast and turdy, you will wear the tread out in no time.

Mini Quakes are pimp... I would post pics of mine, but it's going through a revamp right now so I will wait until I get it back together first.
Pros-
+ For a Duratrax product, they have AWESOME aftermarket support
+ Larger size motor - 380 is a great motor size for 1/18; I never felt the 300/370 can's had enough low end to get the trucks going
+ Upgradeable to a 540 size motor with just a mount and ESC; Can you say Horsepower to weight?
+ Durable; All I really break are upper a-arms and knuckles, which is a cheap and easy fix
+ Vendetta has brought a few new parts that adapt well to the MQ- I am very glad I can get Hex adapters for the Vendetta now and
adapt TC wheels to my truck without 2 sets of adapters
+ Standard size steering servo- This is a huge + to me; Even a LOW end standard servo works super well on this truck

RE: official mini quake thread
I just bought those hex's and was wondering if any of you have used them? I haven't read through this whole thread but figured I would ask. Do you's who have them, like them?
LOL....just read rustys post above this one. Anyone else?

RE: official mini quake thread
oh I see, you should try the pinions of rcmart, that are desing for the MQ/vendetta that have a 2mm inner diameter, but with the correct pitch of the quake.

RE: official mini quake thread
I posted this question on the main forum page but didn't get a response, so I figured I'd try here.
I'm looking on advice for gearing with the Mini Quake and the VR3 motor. Maybe a 13T pinion with stock spur? Also, I was wondering if anyone knows how long the run time is with a VR3 and a GP1100 pack is, or even what the run time is with the stock motor and a GP1100 pack. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

RE: official mini quake thread
Dang!
Massive crash into the furnace in the basement.
Broke upper AND lower front arms (again). No problem, I have spares as the free replacements come in packages of four.
But what's this?! The friggin chassy is broekn too! Where the steel pivot rod goes through chassy and lower a-arm. The front hole got ripped out. OH NO! I gotta get a whole new chassy.
But wait....look at my parts manual...and sure enough...the whole chassy is "Stress Tech Guranteed"
Just gotta take it all apart and send it in for a new one (and another package of upper and lower a-arms)
On a side note...sending a 2x10mm screw through each ball stud must really strngthen it as the steering knuckle didn't break this time.
Great little truck with the VR3. No need to advance time or brushless this thing. At least not for my basement track.
Vendetta rips and tumbles all day all night with no breaks. Well, did break two drive shafts last night...but again, I have at least 8-10 of them and not a full 2 minutes to replace.

RE: official mini quake thread
Same batts as before.
CommonSenseRC 2S2000 LiPo.
Cheap 8c packs for $18 a piece.
Last for a solid 25- 30 minutes at, or above 7v.
Fit perfect in MQ and Detta.
Deans Micro3R connectors.
I don't own heavy cells for my RC cars or planes. Have about LiPo 20 packs. Mostly high discharge(15 and 20c) 3S2100 3S2600 packs for the planes. Some small 2S800 packs for the heli.
Heavy cells drop lower and lower and lower V as they run down. People say they get 10-12 minutes from a heavy pack...yea, but the second half of the run is at diminishing volts. Thye whole idea of LiPo is near flat discharge curve. Starts at above 8v and runs the whole time above 7v. Can't run them down under 6v (3v per cell) or you just ruined them.
I have no batt saver or ESC with LVC...I do religiously use my wattmeter. Just run and check charge and run and check charge and run and check charge. Over time, I have found that timing (with little kitchen timer) for 20 minutes is good. Timer goes off and I screw around a bit more and then quit...so 24-26-28 minutes. Always over 7v resting when done.

Sweet! Thanks for the info. That helps a lot. I wasn't really strongly considering lipo before, but I definitely see the benefits. I wasn't aware of the voltage curve for nimh vs lipo. I did find a lipo lvc a while back when I was looking around. If I tried lipo I would probably buy one since I don't have as much experience and I don't want to destroy my batteries.

Don't really know much about it or if it's any good. Thanks again for all the info!

RE: official mini quake thread
Hello all.
I was at the R/C store today and I was looking at minis. I hate the looks of the 18T series (sorry, they look like skateboards) and I saw the quake. At first I thought they were 2WD, but when I saw that they were 4WD I immediatly fell in love. [8D] The big reason I want a mini is because we do ALOT of camping in the summer and I have a mini mauler and it breaks alot and has about .5 inches of ground clearance. It is also 2WD. I love the mt look of the mini quake and everyone in my family but me wants an RC18 and so far I have wished for the Tamiya F-150 for Christmas and still want it and stryker after that but before camping season I think I might buy this little guy.
Are they good trucks?
Thanks
