Oh yes, there was once when the Monster Trucks were put in the stock 4WD offroad class. I think I have it on video.
A blind man knows when the Mini Quake is on the track. he he

no straight aways in front of stand. Rule 1 of track building 101
Someone will just have to kneel down in the center part.

1. when the straight away is in front of the drivers stand your peripheral vision is very limited and you can not look very far ahead ( cars stopped/wrecked in the straight)
2. the technical parts of the track are much easier to see/drive when they are closer to the stand.
3. Marshalls can stand on the track while only blocking parts of the straightaway , since your going straight at a higher speed your vision is blocked for a shorter period of time vs the straight in front of the stand and marshalls blocking the technical sections ( even though that still happens)
4. because I said so.

All that makes sense. But, I think the size of our track tends to make it little different in this case. The track is so close and small that it makes no difference where the technical section is. The straight usually needs less marshalling, and if we keep it in front of the drivers stand we have less marshalls in the way. I know that the pile-ups that we had on this last track were mostly due to a tight lay-out, but the nasty ones were in font of the drivers stand and you had to wait till a marshall on the outside could run across to fix it. If we keep the technical sections to the back and outside we should have faster marshalling and less of them in the view.
Does not make much difference to me, just my opinion.
#4 is like a fart, stinks and has no substance.

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA
I thought #4 was the best reason.
I was just relaying what I have experienced in the past with building tracks for both onroad and offroad ( I did 95% of the track layouts for the woodville mall carpet track and was involed with all the tarcar layouts/building once it moved to holland)
All big races I have ever been to ( roar mod nats, crc january race, clevland, regionals at crcrc, etc etc) had the straights opposite the stand.
I know for most people "usually" the straight being farther away works better for avoiding pile ups.
In the end it doesnt really matter to me how the track is laid out, I would just like to actually race rather than play "try to avoid the wrecks" for 5 minutes

how about, having the drivers stand right at the end of the straightaway, just before it goes into the first turn? hopefully none of the cars get launched into the air
