Default Help with a Brushed motor

I'm trying to come up with something for an old F1 electric racer my friend gave me. I'm going to use and ez start motor from traxxas, just to get it rolling. It doesn't have any of the capacitors on the back of it. I'm not sure they are even caps. What is the purpose of the resistors? capacitors? soldered on to the backs of brushed motors, and what would it do if I hooked one up to an esc without having those?

They are there to filter out the electrical noise that causes radio interference. Without them you may experience some glitching.
