Default !{MINI LST2 AND DSM RADIO SYSTEM}!

Hey, I was just wondering about this dsm system in the lst 2 but i can help but think there will be a loss in range because of the short antenna. What do you guys think?

Given that Losi is under the Horizon Hobby umbrella, it stands to reason that this is probably a scaled down Spektrum radio. I don't have a LST2, so correct me if I'm wrong here.

Antenna length has to do with the frequency used by the radio system. The higher the frequency, the smaller the antenna. The DSM systems (JR Spektrum, Futaba FASST, Nomadio, etc.) use 2.4GHz as opposed to 75MHz and 27MHz for normal AM and FM car radio systems - a much higher frequency.

Additionally, these are digital spread-spectrum radios so there's a fair amount of error correction built into the protocol. Traditional radio systems are almost all analog, with the exception of PCM radios. I don't have the knowledge to comment on error correction capabilities of PCM radios, but I imagine the DSM systems are superior here.

I have 4 minis that have Spektrum RXs in them with their antennas cut down to 3.6" per the optional instructions in the manual. I've yet to see a glitch with any of these and I can drive them until they're so small I can't see them anymore.

what pbmax just said is your answer.....

There isnt a lost in range, infact there's probably a gain in range.

Yes, your right. If you have a GHz system and a MHz system you'll know. I have a Sperctrum 2.0, and a Hitec Agressor, and I find that when using the Spectrum I gain a good amont of range. Don't let the antenna size fool you, you'll be surprised once you use it.

keep in mind the losi radio only uses 4AAs rather than 6, so the radio signal is not as strong as the traditional spektrums; however, my point may be moot if compared to the nomadio, which uses 4AAs aswell, and outranges the DSM system. Also, i believe the radio uses DSM2, like the Blade CX2 and their new transmitters such as the dx3r, which also use 4AA's instead of 8
