ok, my brother has an abused mini-t that i am overhauling. it happens to have a mamba 8000kv motor in it. should i go the lipo route or nimh? i want to do dirt racing w/ it at club races we have at my track. i have heard bad things about cogging w/ nimh's and brushless but i don't want to have too much power w/ lipo because i am racing.
can someone set me straight?

If it's a big track and they allow lipos, and you're willing to spend the extra money on a battery + charger it's nice to have the extra power lipo gives ya. If it's a smaller track, NiMH should do just fine.

if you are willinng to have ZERO control of the car cause it's WAY too fast, get the lipo.

I have a losi 1100 pack and i dont have any cogging, just when it goes dead....

I found that cogging can be eliminated by increasing your start up power. A 8000kv mamba is not a good choice for dirt rack racing. Try a 5400 and you will be impressed.

I agree with mugen get a lower kv motor and a 2s lipo. If you dont have the money to get the new motor get the 2s lipo and get the castle link and program the speeds and throttle curve..

Look on B-P-P they have some nice 2s lipos. Do you already have a power supply for the charger?

I would definatley go with the 5400 for that track. Try 12/60 gearing with a 2s lipo. A DD sliiper is a must with these motors too. Losi makes them for the mini t for about 10 bucks (I think).

I have to ask if you are planning to use bigger lipo's in the future. For 1/10's or planes maybe? If not I have the perfect charger for you. Here is the link. It is dc only which would mean you would need either a 12v power supply or a 12v battery. I use a 12v lawn&garden battery from walmart and it was only 20 bucks.

I use thunder power lipo's for my T's and they have all been great batteries. I know they cost a bit more but seem to shine through. They are 1900mah packs. They are also 2 years old and seen some battles. I am sure there are a bunch of companies making them now for this lil stud of a truck.

ive already got a nimh charger... it seems that it would be a waste to get another charger that will do that and more...
is there a lipo only charger that is good? i plan on only using it for mini's

also, if i was to go the nimh route, would these be good? would there be cogging w/ these? are these anywhere near as good as lipo?

Thunder power lipos are certainly great packs. Look at www.rchover.com and they have a good ac/dc lipo charger for 2-3s packs.

Why don't you just buy the 8000kv and detune it when you track race? That way you can set it to full power when you are just messing around. I would rather have the option of detuning it then not being able to add more power.

That sould get you goin and it is 8.4v... Cant beat that unless you go lipo, make sure you use deans. What servo are you running? Your going to want a strong one with some speed for better handling will make racing easier.

The Hitec HS55 servo is great with brushless and lipo. Its only like 15 bucks too.

Detuning it will add more strain to the system then needed. With the 8000kv tuned down the esc will get hotter, you will still draw the same amount of amps from the battery when accelerating, and your control wont be as smooth as a 5400kv.
