RE: On-road
I think just about any st or buggy should be able to do on road at least ok.
Got a vendetta st and rc18t. For road use I prefer the rc18t. Use gold springs (stiff) and foam wheels and it's great for on road, and will take a beating. Converting it to an rc18r is easy too. My vendetta st seems better off road. Even stock, it was easy to roll over.

RE: On-road
For the vendetta i'd say it's more then just gearing, but also shocks. Handling of the detta is awesome, but the st seems to turn over pretty easy. Buggy any better? Foams may fix it I guess. Thicker oil too instead of new shock springs if available. Gearing depends on the motor you're using. Road is less work than offroad, so gear higher- just not too much higher. Can also depend on the course you're running.
