I have a mini quake and love it. the stress tech warranty is awesome... I haven't used it but I have way more fun with my MQ because I know that if it break it, its covered.... jumping off counters to the floor, way too big jumps etc.... I'm surprised it hasn't broken, but its still going strong.... if you get the MQ you MUST upgrade the battery asap, DTX 1200mah is $15 so its not bad, other than that my only other mod is a 13t pinion... less top speed but more power... I might go to an 11t.....

Mini baja is one I would think about... 2.4Ghz and lipo would be awesome.... but doesn't have the warranty, and its over your budget... with the mini quake you have money left over for a quick charger...

Mini-t is in a different class, 2wd, i wouldnt even consider it,...

I beat my mini T into submission when it was new and it took it like a champ. I only ever broke about two things, One rear hub carrier and something else... it was too long ago to remember. The mini T is a LOT of fun. being 2wd is just a advantage in the fun aspect. Its a lot of fun, Its fast, and pulls wheelies all day long. If your only looking to bash, I've had a great time with my mini T and the aftermarket is all over it, I would suggest the Pro version of the Baja.

i believe that the mini baja is a little faster but the mini quake looks more rigid and range depends on what radio you buy if you get the SE but my mini baja has gone to like 200ft or so... not sure about the normal mini quake though

the mini baja is a mini-t pre modified and does not come with lipo or 2.5ghz, it comes with a 27FM sythesized radio and a 1100 mah battery.

oops, I was thinking of the mini-monster baja when I posted...

barefootdan - what type of terrain do you see yourself on? if just dirt or the street the mini-t/mini baja will be ok. But if grass is on the agenda, you want 4WD for sure..... Even in dirt or on the street 4WD will have better traction.... 2WD trucks tend to spin more without careful throttle modulation....

the mini quake is a bit wider and longer than the mini baja and that helps handling. its also has higher ground clearance. If you plan to jump it at all, go with the mini quake...
if the mini baja is just a modded mini-t then I would think it would go about the same speed, which is 10-15Mph (thats just a guess). The mini quake does about 18mph out of the box, and with a 1200mah battery you get about 10 min run time, but when i replaced my pinion with a 13t pinion my run times jumped up to around 20 min...
