i wouldnt get a nitro mini for a first

the crt .5 isnt a mini imo 1/12 seems closer to 1/10 than to 1/16 or 1/18
i hear it is great quality though
and that it is extremely fast with a .12 engine

for a nitro mini
i would get the kyosho mini inferno 09
great speed of 33mph clocked my rc car action
and its of high quality
and the sirio engine is too

Why not? They are great for beginers[&:] I even started with one.

The kyosho mini inferno 09 is a great buy.. For $450 why not get something a little bigger and "better"?
You could even get into 1/8 and blow the mini competition away[>:]

I would recommend the Xray mini also (mine is the nt18mt rtr), i know that your budget is much larger than the $250 or so for the xray but man does this truck handle, and a blast to drive. i especially like how it starts with a starter box instead of the pull start (that have always broke on me from other trucks that i have had) it may be just me, and everyone has a diff view of what they like but i love the xray mini nitro better than my bigger trucks, scale wise it just seems faster (looks like it because its smaller) but anyway you may or may not like a bigger truck, it depends on what you are into, just wanted to share what i have had the most fun with. good luck with your choice.

One of the best deals out right now- http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/17279

This truck usually sells for around $600 (Tower hobbies sells it for $700) and you can get it for $280

I've been an XRAY fan ever since I got an [link=http://rcglowplugs.blogspot.com/2007/12/xray-m18-my-last-rc-car.html]M18[/link] and have been [link=http://rcglowplugs.blogspot.com/2007/11/desire-to-get-xray-nt18mt-rising.html]wanting an NT18MT[/link] for awhile. I finally broke down and ordered one. As a matter of fact, we ordered four so my family can run them together in our field. It's good to hear all of these positive reviews on the NT18MT.

For 450, you should just get a 1/10th or 1/8th scale. Might go for a hpi savage x 4.6
