I wouldn't expect them to show up in hobby stores since they'd want to protect the big brands, their wholesalers and their profit margins.

That's key right there. They are to worried about the big brands. That's what I was thinking.

That's not such a bad thing to be concerned about.
When some overseas company blatantly rips-off the design another company invested a good amount of money into creating, we seriously need to question what's going on here and if we should support these type of companies.

look at the price on this same knockoff, $17.50!! although shipping is $30, that is around $48 for an almost exact clone of the 18T.

That's all people look at is the price. They're so bamboozled by a super low price tag they don't care how good the quality is, or if the design has been stolen from another company, or anything else like that. [:'(]

thats the exact reason why people buy those
they think 2 themselves
hm this is an exact copy of a know brand
and its 100 bucks cheaper
so if the quality sucks i can upgrade it with the extra 100$
than have a stock rc18

just think about it
would you rather have a knock off with say 100$ of upgrades from the rc18
or a bonestock rc18

see different people have different outlooks
and one may be biased

i have bias leaning toward the clone
because my friends had the rc18b/mt
and hated it
so i said hm the clone prolly have same problems
but with the extra cash you could probably fix them

hey SS
still bad weather?
mine weathers getting better
woo hoo i can run the raze =)

I see your point.
Still, I can't condone these companies who steal the design of a car. For me, it's not so much the issue of quality vs. price so much as the thieft of the time and resources Associated put into the design.

It's kind of funny too, because I never used to like Associated much, and while I still am not crazy about thier cars, I can't help but feel very sorry for them. A team of people put a lot of effort in designing and testing and marketing a good truck. I can imagine their pride and sence of accomplishment to see it go to the market and people enjoying them. Then some other company comes along, steals the design, and sells it for a whole lot less since they don't have to support a team of designers, testers, etc. I don't know about you, but I'm sure I'd feel pretty darn bad about that. If you are fine with buying stolen designs then by all means go for it. Unfortunatly the chinese dont care about patent laws so this will continue.

i dont think thats a bad thing imo
its only a bad thing if you cant get replacement parts and hop ups

but since this is an EXACT copy as i have heard of a rc18
and that all parts will work
i say
go for it =)

but if you do have the cash to go for brand name
by all means go brand name

Majority of the RC companies in the US do not manufacture anything. They have other companies do it and then they put their names on the products as it is imported to the US. Very common for most industries, not just RC.

I agree with what you said here. I rather save the money for hop-ups. I hardly ever keep anything in stock form.

Not much time to run mine. Between weather and that thing called work. Just keeps me to busy and get home to late to have time to run it sometimes.

and that thing called work.
lol
thats where being only 12 comes in handy =)
and just doing house chores earns money

so since the knock off is only like 50$
i will just save up for like 2 weeks or w.e
to get that

since im selling my micro and i got 100 fo that
i will probably just save that 100
or maybe even get one of em castle creations sidewinders for my t4 =)

Actually that was not the point I was making. I'm quite aware that a lot of stuff comes from other contries.
The point I'm trying to make is that this specific truck's design has been stolen from Associated. Because Associated invested a good amount of time and money into that design, I see the theift of that design just the same as if another company went into thier factory and stole a piece of equipment from them. Just because another contry will not honor patent laws, doesn't make it right.

how can you get more ground clearance when using 1/10 wheels? longer shocks maybe?

You get little more clearence with the taller tires. Any more you are correct - longer shocks would be good.

While that may well be true, the desings are still the intillectual property of the RC company. Imo its unfortunate that people are so willing to buy an stolen truck that a company, in this case AE, has spent the money to design, test, and market. It is a bigger problem that consumers seem to think it is. No one is holding the Chinese companies accountable, if it was a US or Eurpean company making clones it would not be allowed.
