Default Going brushless

I'm looking into uprading to brushless for my mini-baja.
For a esc I'm looking at The quark 22a pro car.
and one of these for the motor.

The lower one is almost double the price of the upper one. Other than a slight difference in kv, they look almost identical. Does anyone know the difference between them? Which would be better?

? I have no clue....

the first one looks like a great deal though. $25 is a steal. That's cheaper than most brushed motors.

The first one is sensored and the second is sensorless. I'd stick with the first one, since I'm not sure the Quark 22a can handle sensorless motors.

both are sensorless. and the quark 22 only runs sensorless motors. There are no sensored micro systems yet. Novak is releasing one very soon, and it will be the first.

Gotcha. I wondered why the BL setups for mini's never mentioned that.

You could probably pick up a Castle Creations 5400kv motor pretty cheap, now, since they just released an updated model. The Great Planes motors should fit just fine, though.

That's what I'm thinking......why is it so cheap?

Tower is odd like that sometimes. Its either overstock, or they need to make room for a new product. I remember the ammo 28-35-5100's (and a few other larger ammo motors) being on sale for $34.99 for about a month, then they bumped it back to $54.99, but left some other larger motors at $34.99? I have no clue what their logic is....

I think that I've decided on the quark 22a, since it has a nice price [at $67] and I've heard nothing but good things about it.
I'm still open to motors, though. The motors that I'm currently considering are:

Ammo 4300
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXHYK4&P=7

Ammo 4850
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLWX0&P=7

Hacker E30-13L
http://www.aero-model.com/motordetai...es=E30&style=L

From what I've heard, Hacker makes pretty good motors. What do you think?

Yeah, a lot of guys like the Hacker motors. I've really not heard anything bad about them as far as performance / reliability.

Because, after some research, I've found that Castle's esc's work very well, but the motors have a problem with snapping their shafts.

Snapping shafts ? Thats a new one on me . I have 3 Mamba systems , and all have been flawless .

The NiMh batteries might be ok , I tried some in my Mini T and it wasnt all that great .

I see youre in Elburn , are you a member of the Dirt Dawgs ?

Im right down the road from you in Genoa .....

I've got a Mamba 6800 in my MLST and it's performed very well. In fact, it works fine with 6-cell nimh and with a 2s lipo. The biggest thing is that you should use a good gauge wire with a good connector. I'm using 18awg wire and Deans Ultra connectors on the NIMH packs, and I have no cogging issues.

No, I didn't even know about the Dirt Dawgs or that there's a track here other than the one at the Hobbytown races during Elburn Days(and the dirt one there looks as if it's built for destroying trucks).

I'm looking for a motor that will run well on 7.2v nimh's. I'm mostly going to run it indoors, since I already have good offroad trucks (1/10) and I'd like a vehicle I can race around indoors with in cold or rainy weather.
Which of these would work best for that?

That Hacker motor looks really good , I would look into that .

My brushless mini t just didnt have the same punch with NiMh batts as it does with LiPo , Maybe my NiMh batteries were bad ?

I wanna see what the Dirt Dawgs are about this season , I have seen pics of the tracks they run and it looks pretty cool .

Hopefully they race MT or 2wd Stadium truck cause I dont own a Truggy or Buggy .......yet ........

I've read that torque really depends on the amperage of the batteries.

From the stats the hacker is the best motor, i've only had experiance with the ammo motors and, at 25$ that 4850 is a great deal. The 4850 would be perfect for just bashing around and, would run okay on the 6 cells but, like I said the hacker is better on paper but, i've had no real life experiance with it..

You've tried ammo motors in cars? How does it work?

I was using 1400 mAh batteries , which worked fine with my brushed Mini Baja .

Some of the Vendetta boys were putting the Ammo motors in and are having great luck with them .

ammo motors work very well in cars. You just have to find something to seal the holes on the end. Most use electrical tape.

I like both ammo and hacker motors. Both are very smooth, and offer tons of power. It would be hard to choose a favorite between the two. You can see from this pic that the hacker is also larger in size and weight than a normal mamba, which is why a lot of us choose these over mambas. Hackers offer more low end vs the current 20mm mambas.

I use it in one of my vendettas. You'll want the smaller 20mm or 24mm can for your mini-baja.
