Annoyed... RE: Tenergy 50+ mph pack
Hello:
So today I decided to add a Revo VXL to the stable. I saw this Tenergy "50+ MPH combo pack" 2- 25c 1800mah lipos, I was told by the hobby shop that I could run them in series for crazy power. Well, as you may already know when I try this the esc goes into voltage cut off. I called traxxas and they tell me this is a no no, I call Tenergy they say it should be fine "that's what Traxxas had in mind". LHS was closed by this time. Now, did I just get totally taken? If so, I need to have a discussion with the LHS. If not what am i doing wrong? And last of all if I did get taken then what should I run for very high speeds? Sorry for all of the questions.

Here is what you should be doing, depending on the lipos or nimh cells you have:
You can run two 2s packs in parallel (7.4v). This give you twice the run time. Do NOT run in series, the max the vxl speedo can take is a single 3s.
You can run two 3s (11.1v) packs in parallel. This will give you twice the run time as well. Do NOT run in series, same reason as above.
You can run two 7.2v nimh's in series, this will give you 14.4 volts and VERY fast speeds. You can also run these packs in parallel for twice the run time.
For the 3s or running two nimh's (in series), you need to put on the high speed pinion.
Hope this helps.

You can run the 2S Lipos in a series, but you have to use the NiMH mode on the ESC to do so.
The problem is there is no LVC in this mode for the LiPos and everything is going to run HOT
It is NOT, I repeat NOT, recommended.
Peopel are doing it for speed runs. Check the Traxxas forums. There are a lot of people doing it, but it's for short time doing speed runs.
Not bashing, and they've modified thier rig with fans, heat sinks, and body ventilation to accomodate the heat.
If you want to run them in series, you're probably better off chamging out the ESC to something designed to handle a 4S Lipo
