Want to UPGRADE my HPI Micro RS4
About 4 years ago, I bought my HPI Micro RS4... played with a couple of times and put it away.
I started it up after all these years and would like to finally upgrade it for more speed to bash around.
Motor and Battery Pack.
I'm looking for a easy drop and replace type upgrades, and not spend over $100 on upgrades.
For the motor, I'm thinking:
1. Graupner speed 300 motor (http://www.hobby-lobby.com/speed300.htm) (don't know which pinion gear though)
or
2. Orion Big Block (https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/c...pl?pn=ORN20903)
or
3. HPI Modified Motor 45T (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAYU7&P=Z) (don't know which pinion gear though)
For battery:
1. Mystery 900mAh 2-cell Lipo (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7621)

RE: Want to UPGRADE my HPI Micro RS4
I would use a 13t pinion. The Graupner 300 is a great motor with loads of power. I used to run it in my Mini-T.
As for the MRS4 - I have 4 of them but only one put fully together at the moment. Wish the popularity for hop-ups was there like in that past. Now adays it's hard to find good hop-ups for these great little cars.

RE: Want to UPGRADE my HPI Micro RS4
I bought my micro RS4 about 6 years ago. I upgraded many parts. For the motor, I bought an Orion Big Block. It is a good, strong motor and still runs very well. I'm using IB Intellect 1400 and getting good decent speed from it.

There's only about a half dozen mini on-road cars that have been introduced and superceeded the MRS4s.
The manufacturer discontinued them, nobody sells them any more, nobody makes hop-ups, nobody races them, so they're dead.

RE: Want to UPGRADE my HPI Micro RS4
Do I need a motor mount for the Graupner 300 or Orion Big Block ?
For the 13t Pinion, what are the motor shaft size or are they all 5 mm ?
If I go 6-cell, would I need a new ESC ? Would I need to change the ESC ?
Thank you!

You will need a motor mount for the 300 sized motors. What I have (unsure where from since I have had it over 5 years now) is an adaptor plate to allow the 300 sized motors fit. As for the shaft for the pinion - all your standard pinions for your 1/18 scale cars will fit. I use the same pinions from my graupner as i do with my mamba 8000kv motor from castle creations.
Hope that is helpful.

RE: Want to UPGRADE my HPI Micro RS4
Sorry, I made a mistake. I do not have a Orion Big Block. Instead, I have a Peak Racing Chubby Micro Oversized. It does need a special motor mount. I bought it as a package that came with the motor and an aluminum motor mount. As far as I know, the Chubby, Speed 300, and Big Block are all the same motor (all need a special motor mount). They just have different labels on them. I believe the shaft size is 2mm....just like all the other motors for the 1/18 scale. The ESC needs to be compatible with the motor and not the type of batteries. If you run a brushed motor (all the above mentioned motors are brushed), then you need a ESC that can handle brushed. Contrary, brushless motors need brushless ESC.

RE: Want to UPGRADE my HPI Micro RS4
Thanks for the help!
For the battery, I'm going with CheapBatteryPacks.com and getting a 4+2 NiMH 1500 Elite 2/3A pack. (lipo required changing out the esc, this battery pack for $18 is a better option for me).
For the motor, seems like the Graupner 300 and Orion Big Block are basically the same motor, so I'm getting which ever is cheaper (probably the 300).
I found the 300 motor plate (mount it looks like).
Is there any sizing on the chassis that I need to worry about with the 300 can?

Damn, I thought that motor mount would fit the Big Block, and it doesn't.
Does anyone know where I can buy a motor mount for the Big Block ?
