if the vapor esc was based on the mmp thenit should handle 120 amps continuous and have been tested to 300 amp burst setups, according to someone in ultimaterc

What fan did you use?

I used one of those castle motor fans the whole piece and tip tied it down.

Anyone fix the loss of range yet with these trucks? Seems like I go about 50 yards or so and my truck is dead on the water. I have to walk to it for it to move anywhere and such. Any suggestions for this?

Check the antenna wire it may have gotten caught on the rear center drive shaft causing it to rip apart.

Already got a new antenna wire on there today so I don't believe it is that.

What do you mean? Did you replace the existing antenna wire that was on the receiver?

Computer was broken and I wasn't able to go on here for a few days. I am starting to realize that ESC amperage ratings are about as truthful and accurate as nitro engine HP ratings. The amperage readings I saw in this thread earlier (it was just one rating but the guy that posted it wasn't a dummy) showed 140A or so under hard acceleration for the stock motor and 110 amps for what I think was an SCT 3800 motor.

I wouldn't recommend anyone using the stock ESC at this point. This truck is best sold in the kit form.

After my xs's antenna was eaten up by the draftshart, its been uncontrollable after 10 feet.

Will I be able to purchase HPI RF-30 receiver and sync it with TF40 transmitter?
Its hard to find RF40 receiver other than ordering in europe or bidding war in ebay
no need to buy a new reciever just solder a new antena wire ;)

I'm looking to get this for a niece of mine. She's 7 and ready to step up to something a little bigger. But I don't want her to have all the power of the 2s. And it sounds like 7.2v nimh is only a little slower. Is there an easy way to limit the throttle without hurting the esc?

reut1 02-11-2012 04:19 PM

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...

so upon further investigation, the leads going into the esc from the motor are starting to melt a little bit. heat shrink on the leads are gone and the case of the esc is starting to melt. so im prob gonna get a mamba max pro kit and send this stock stuff back to hpi to keep as a back up or other project in the future

nitro-rob 02-11-2012 05:08 PM

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...

Reut - you likely caught one of the weak ESCs that has the same problems but not as extreme, saving you the blue smoke.  I would take advantage of the warranty and use the replacement HPI sends you just in case it blows up.  Keep them on the hook.  Why get a replacement that will likely blow up as a spare since you will use it and blow it up after the warranty goes out.<div>
<div>Stealth - you can reduce the power, motor timing and punch control etc.. on the software to tame the truck down.  HPI firmware from what I can tell doesn't have the torque limiting feature yet (but I could be wrong, can anyone verify this?).</div></div>

Hpi sells an antenna for replacement it is $4.00 at my lhs. That said mine broke like everyones and I put the new one on and still it sucks for range. It really seems like there is a huge delay too on the response of the car.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...

Did you remove the wire off the board directly or solder onto the broken wire?

ThunderbirdJunkie 02-12-2012 09:10 AM

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...

ThunderbirdJunkie is more interested in what wire he used...because if he used an AM/FM antenna, then his radio is not going to act properly.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...

Speaking of antenna wires!  My tube has come out, and so did the screw that helped hold it in place.  Also my wire has been worn down a bit and it dangerously close to the drive shaft.

What have you guys done to keep it out of the way, and the tube in place?
