I modified my cneter diff with old tamya parts so it is locked solid with metal rear drive cup and stock front. I went stock front cup only cause the brake's use the front cup to stop. my fornt diff is semi locked and my rear diff is full open car turns alot quicker this way with no push or slide. look under Jebrccars to see pics of the upgrade's and I listed part numbers on here.

Couldnt find pics other than drive cups and didnt see any part #'s. I would like to do theses mods to my chaos also.

check pages 73-75 all the information is there. pics of the parts I used and the part numbers only part I could not get a number for was the brass collar I used. you will have to mic or use a dialcaliper to see what size you will need. I made mine from ones I already had here.

you are looking for the ring gear correct? they came with the pinion gear in a set. don't know where to find them any more some have upgraded to a different one from another car you would have to scim throught the thread till you find it.

I found them. But now my newest problem, I can get my Chaos running good but when i refuel it does not want to start again. I'm using 20% Blue Thunder Race fuel(LHS didn't have 30%), I got the Idle set to when It starts it does not die right away, and high set where it doesn't stutter on take-off.

do you have an IR temp gun or a digitail instant read thermometer? that is how I tune depending on weather and such I prefer 30%nitro 14%oil it is pretty easy to tune but really messy. 20%nitro 10% oil is ok but lil harder to tune if you ask me. I prefer wildcat brand there are others I have used and like but the LHS Does not carry those brands I prefer in the 30%N 14%O only 20%N 9%O or 40%N 9%.O so I go with wildcat as they have it in the 30%N 14%O.

What should the temps be? and where would you check it at the head?

Mine runs best between 175 and 205 degrees. Just point the temp gun at the base of the glow plug after you get a couple high speed runs done. Don't be tempted to lean it out too much...it's not a Picco.

mine likes the same I think these engines just prefer the 175-205 range.

i got the nb16 metal gears. they do fit but.... i need longer dogbones now. The metal outdrives do fit but is about 1/4" to short. This buggy is starting to be a money pit.

ohh cool, hmm this may mean new chassis for e chaos... i'm ordering some sheets of CF, may have to make one for the e chaos... get it a big longer, use a diff driveshaft...

hmmm longer dog bones by 1/4" try tamya dog bones from the 1/10th scale trucks. the ones I have from the blackfoot are about that much longer.

Sorry Lug, but at that point it ceases to be a Chaos, so I'm afraid we wont be allowing you on this thread anymore... I kid! But seriously, the NB assemblies sound quite promising. I'm pretty sure one of you enthusiasts will be able to locate the proper dogbones.

That would be nice! This little buggy is fun, I just want to drive off road with it(grass), I got some wheels coming for it to try out.

Yeah, I've pretty much given up running mine off road. As it stands I don't really have any gremlins when I keep it on the blacktop or concrete (it drifts pretty good on smooth basketball courts).
Next week my work is having a company picnic at Legg Lake / Whittier Narrows, and the flyer said there will be RC car races; Pretty informal, I gather...I'll probably do well to bring the little turd as a novelity, then pull out my big guns: a ten year old Ofna 1/8 Ultra MBX with new Picco .26 Max.

Im gonna do your diff oil mod and possibly lock the center one also. What shock oil do you use and whats the difference in the blue, yellow, and black springs?

well i got downstairs around uhhh i think 11 30 and its now 2, almost got it all back together (reversed front and rear arms/hubs so gotta switch shock, and ball link sides, after almost 3 hours i was done) either way i got the pinions mounted in, i got a kinda hack way of keeping it all happy, pretty much i took, 2 small squares of paperboard from the packaging and i put it where the diff cases meet on the bottom to give the diff a little bit of room to get pushed back by the pinion and such i only did this on the bottom, and on the top i just left things a little loose, this is far from puerfect this is just me doing what feels pretty smooth (mesh on these pinions is a bit off but i'm hoping the rings will break in quickly). also should my paper diff spapacers not be enuf i was thinking about cutting out some paper washers to get the diff cases a bit longer pushing the ring gear away from the pinion to loosen up mesh, making something like these...

this is when i wish i was still in high school this way i could walk into the tech ed room hop on a computer whip out a pair of cailpers get the ID and OD for that paper washer chaos spec, polp a old cereal box into the laser cutter hit print and watch the majic happen.... ahh rapid prototype how i love the....

i think they're the same size as the ones that hold the ring gear to the diff case only machined threads vs plastic tapping, either way i foudn withe caps they would rub, on the diff case so i chose to run with out up, the pinoin nor the output isn't going anywhere, so i'm not worried,

as for the dog bones, being short, i was able to use a little well placed feul tubing to get the bones well centered in both the outdrives it takes a little trial and error, more with the rear center vs teh front center,
so yea i think i jsut wrote a book not really sure on a laptop like i said and the window is olddly small only like 10 lines of text which is probally a good thing.... either way any q's pust um up, and i'll put up pics of the washers then the assembly, (i had it stripped down to the motor and the battery plate/strap)

i knwo there isn't a ton on the outdives/pinions, i should've snagged a few more but didn't really think they were nessasary at the time but they would've been nice now that i'm posting stuff up... but its a pretty simple install like i said last nite, i'd set the bearings in the cases, (my front one got pulled out with the pinions) then pop the front pinion in holding that in place you should be able to get the outdrive in, they stay together decently, but can fall out, if you like hold it outdrive down it'll fall out...

but i did shoot some vid, its okay, there is a good bit of gear/motor noise but the e chaos has always had that...

was a bit squirly but it ran well, the diffs held up great, havn't pulled them apart yet, after the vid, but after some light running around in the basement, i took a peak, and they looked fine...

now i get to really focus on setting up the diffs, i gotta see about de bonding the ca locker job i did on the rear... i hope boiling watter doesn't mess up the plastic... spun a driveshaft in the hub... i guess the rears don't need feul tubing in the outdrives....

i got my outdrive upgraded found one from a trinity now they bolted on decently had to dremel down the flatspots a bit on the outputs from the diff wasn't too hard tho you gotta do it slow i went a bit too far [:-] so pics

thats about it, no test running for a few days, ac PSU on charger died, but i'm being taken care of very nicely by guver, he's on RCU great prices and super duper top notch service, less than 24h on all emails and great to work with if you ever need a charger check out what he has for sale in the market place
