Sounds good. I have been wondering where I was going to run this winter and it looks like maybe I found a spot.

Sounds good. What do you have in the area as far as hotels? Anything pretty close?

There's a few small hole in the wall places near. Or if you come about 10 miles south you can hit a Comfort Inn on Alexis Rd in Toledo.

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

Ten miles south will work. I will just make weekends out of my trips down. It will be better than 2 hours back after racing.

So is the track offroad or on? dirt? pics?

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

The track is a foam track system from [link=http://www.rcptracks.com]RCP Tracks[/link]. It's basically on road, but for off road vehicles we lay out some great jumps on top of the track that can easily be removed for on-road vehicles. Pics coming very soon.

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

Will we be doing a different layout this coming week, or what is your schedule for changing layouts? I see RCP has a pretty neat track builder utility on the website. If you can tell me how many pieces of each you have, I can come up with a couple of layouts, unless you have some already. Not that we have to use anything I come up, I just like to layout tracks :)

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

Don't know for sure how much we have, never counted it. I know we have over 100 pieces of straight edge track. Maybe next week we can have one of the kids count it. I have a couple of layouts, but by all means go ahead and make some if you'd like. We can change it this week if you'd like. That's all I've heard all day today.

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

Well at least you're getting some feedback. That's great. The more people talk the more they'll come out.

Have you guys thought about condensing some of the classes into one to save a little time? Like 2 wheel mod and 4 wheel mod, or 2 wheel stock and 4 wheel stock? I'm not sure on that tight, high traction track if there is really a difference between 2 and 4 wheel. Alot of tracks will have a novice class as well, that is for just for beginners and allows any car. That may eliminate some of the 2 or 3 car heats. Just a suggestion to help move the program along and keep people from getting bored and loosing interest.

Here's a layout I put together today. Don't know if there's enough track to make it or not. It would be run counter-clockwise, that way you have the whole straight for staging the cars.

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

I agree about combining some classes.

As the track gets deeper it might get harder to marshall. Different layout is good.
I am just glad there is somewhere to have fun at this point.

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

Track design looks great. If we don't have enough track, we could always just cut down the length of the straights.

I figured the first couple of weeks I'd let the smaller classes run on their own just so others could see what classes we're running. I will combine smaller classes in the future. It will save time and we could get more racing in. I'd just separate them on paper after we're done and give points appropriately. Plus I think we need to get started a little sooner from now on. I think an hour plus of practice time is a lot and we could shave some time off to get racing earlier. We're also going to try to lock the doors to the store at 4:00 and be walking out the door by 4:01 to get there sooner and start setting up. These last couple of weeks we've had customers in at 3:58 and look for too long when they see the hours on the door on the way in. Also cutting down on the amount of stuff we bring helps too.

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

I've also heard some concerns about the points being doubled for the ovals. Don't worry, it's not going to be that easy. I planned on making the track 5 or 6 squares wide if possible and putting the jumps on the outer edges. Or narrowing the track in sections to put the squeeze on cars. Plus I planned on running bigger heats, up to 8 if enough people are there. So it's not going to be just an easy way for bad drivers to get some easy points.

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

Who was complaining about that? That's silly.

Is it possible to run off-road oval without the jumps? I would like to see that happen. The point of oval is to go FAST!

NevrOld 01-07-2007 10:27 PM

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

Don't know who was complaining. Just heard it from a few that said they heard it. We probably could run without jumps, I think we'll take a vote and see what everyone wants. Maybe we'll have a squeeze section, 3 wide with chicanes on both sides?

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

Did you talk to Associated about all those speed controls? Just curious as to what their story was. I sent my LRP to them yesterday.

NevrOld 01-09-2007 09:40 PM

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

I asked how many calls they've gotten on LRP speedos and the guy told me a few. He said just have everyone send them back AFTER they burn up and they'll replace them. They will NOT be issuing a recall or posting anything on their site about them. BS I say.

sb7979 01-09-2007 10:09 PM

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

The pop-up add above your post was quite fitting when I read this. It was an add for the "Fighting Gravity" dvd where the truck is on fire after jumping the gas soaked ramp. Very nice since we were talking about ESCs buring up.

That is BS. Out of the 30 some entries last week, how many were AE with stock ESCs? And how many of those fried? Not a good ratio. Unfortunetely some people will become upset with their LHS because they will expect them to warranty it.

IS IT FRIDAY YET?

StewPedaso 01-09-2007 10:33 PM

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

Where are all the other regular racers? Just us?

I think that they are not going to do a recall or posting about it because it would be bad for the sales of the 18T/B/Mt. With the others that are coming out like the Vendetta it would not be good to say that they are having electronics problem when competition is coming up fast.

Friday, Friday.....Friday

RE: 18th & 36th SCALE RACING-TOLEDO,OH AREA

Tim,

I talked to the other Tim about the trailer. I think he's going to bring it up on Friday morning, then I'll be over at like 3:30 or so to pick it up and haul the track to the track. I'll take a copy of the track above and we'll give it a try. Maybe we'll make the shorter straights a little shorter, and the longer straight a little longer.

Stew brings up a good point....where are all the other racers? Surely they have a computer, and internet access, and can read, right? If anyone else reads this, put up a post. Let us know you're out there.
