Wind Hobby Ferret 1/16th Electric Buggy

This is a new forum thread for the Wind Hobby Ferret electric buggy. Most people have found these at Micro Center for 50 dollars and have been coming to RCU for answers. We're all pretty sure this car is a clone of another brand's buggy and there are many names by which this car has been found. None the less, these are really cool and lots of fun. Get em while you can! My Micro Center only has 8 left!

The other thread that spawned this new topic can be found here: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5833435/anchors_5833435/mpage_1/key_wind+hobby/anchor/tm.htm#5833435]originating thread[/link]

If you have one of these cars and have anything to add, or questions to ask, please do!

Paul

I bought 2. One for outdoors and another for indoor racing. I changed the tires and rims for better indoor driving.

I'm not sure what model car they were originally made for. I bought them new yesterday; I will look at the packages when I get home and let you know.

Do you have any pics with the body off? Just from looking at the pics, it looks similiar to a KMI.

I was wrong looks nothing like a KMI with the body off. How does it handle and are there any weak spots on the buggy?

Well when you rebuild the shocks with 30 wt because thats what i used it handles very well on and off road it takes jumps well also, nice and balanced, iam sure as this thread grows we will find all the weak spots on this buggy, me personally i haven't broken anything yet, but one thing i want to upgrade is the diff and get threaded shocks. O one otherthig that surprises me is that the ESC can handle anything down to a 13 turn motor witch is very good for the price of this buggy, but knowing me i might put the esc thats in my rs4 micro but would hate to lose the reverse.

Hey finalgear, great idea about the 30 weight shock oil. I changed mine last night. It is much better than whatever they had in it. I haven't drove it much, but it does handle better.

Yeah. It is actually a computer store. I think they got these in just for Christmas, but they didn't sell so the price droped down from $149.99 to $49.99. Never thought I could a good "hobby shop" deal at a computer store.

yup microcenter the one here in new york they have like 20 left and the motor is a 29 turn pos iam going to open it up and take like 3-4 winds off the armature on all sides then reassemble it and see what that dose, glad to see that you took my advice and rebuilt them i think they had like 10 or 15 wt in there so the 30 was way better 40 will work also you don't want to go any higher than that being that the car isn't that heavy compared to the 1/10 scale.

Me and a bunch of guys (about 10) at work have these. So we've had an assortment of repair work. As far as weak spots go, here's what I know of:

Shock towers - soft aluminum and they bend easy with all of those adjustment holes. No breakage yet, just bending.
Shock shafts - snap right at the threading.
Axle drive shaft - had one snap at the pin hole.
Spur gear - tooth broke off
Diffhousing drive gear not the actual diff gear - teeth wore down and began grinding

Keep in mind, we've been bashing these pretty hard on concrete floors with jumps and big concrete pilars to dodge. So all-in-all, not too bad.

For 50 bucks, just get two and have one for parts. Beats ordering and shipping!

I did put in an order from Redcat racing. Looks like the foam bumper setup from their onroad version will bolt right on in place of the current bumper. Might help with the shock shaft issues...I'll post pics when I get em.

Sorry it took so long to get back with you. The rims are HPI Racing mesh wheel 26mm black (3mm offset).
The tires are HPI Racing V-groove super Radial tire pro compound 26mm.

If you plan on driving outdoors at all, buy a different type of tire. The rims are fine, but these tires are real soft and would wear out fast outdoors.

Did anybody notice that the TREMOR XTB BUGGY is the same as our car but nitro? The parts look exactly the same, and some parts are cheaper:

Looks like some of these will fit too.

Yeah, I just made a big order from Redcat. Should be here on the 14th. I think all 5 16th scale cars they have are all based on the same one. They just change suspension and tires on each one. Pretty sure they're all going to fit. We'll see!
