Brushless: Novak vs. Castle Creations

TLDR: Should I buy a Castle Creation Mamba Pro 8000kv or Novak Mongoose Micro Pro Brushless 9000kv?
Hey everyone, I'm new to site, new to electric rc, experienced in nitro rc. So I sold my 1/10 nitro on road to help fund my Micro Rs4. I have radio gear already and I just need a motor and ESC. What would you guys recommend me getting as a motor since I want a brushless micro now? Also, in terms of battery packs, will I need one separate for the motor and one for the reciever. I have an OLD NiMH battery back that I will be replacing with LiPO.

i would go for the mamba i been using them for years and all the esc still work well never had a single problem plus it more adjustable using the castle link to hook it up to your computer

another vote for the the castle iv had 3 so far and not 1 problem with any of them and you only need 1 battery for the esc and receiver
i would recommend the 6800 kv motor if you are going with a lipo it will be more then enough just a thought

In terms of scale MPH what have you guys ran with your mamba setups? What range of speeds is the mamba capable of? A friend of mine told me that he would want to race me in his Aktion RS4 built for 540 motors, so I was wondering if a micro brushless would keep up just fine against a 540 brushless or not.

RE: Brushless: Novak vs. Castle Creations

oh don't worry you will keep up with him with a 3 cell lipo and beat him the 540 is just over kill and over weighted. yours with the mamba will out handle him with no problem. people put a 540 in the rs4 in the past because it was a cheap way to go fast now brushless has come down it is forgotten and done with. whether you go with the 6800 or the 8000 geared correctly it should hit 60+ with a 3 cell lipo . i like the 8000k but to each his own the 6800 will run cooler but it all depends how you gear it .the 8000k i would go with 8 or 10 tooth pinion the 6800 maybe a 11 to 13 tooth. on youtube people are bragging the micro rs4 is doing 51mph with a 540 brushed the mamba will well exceed that

here is a youtube link of my 1/14 recoil with a 8000k + 3cell lipo and it is bigger and heaver then a micro rs4 and i tell you there no 540 micro rs4 going to beat it

Thanks for the input RC18junky, umm, do you happen to own an RC18r or have raced one? Im also looking into buying one off ebay and possibly putting a mamba in that car as well.

RE: Brushless: Novak vs. Castle Creations

no i only have a 18t 8000k but a got friends have them with mambas and beat me with the same setup. if you get a 18r it is easy to convert it to the SC buy just getting the SC tiers and body you could get the bumpers but not needed so it can be a 2 in 1 car

What kind of batteries do you use on your mamba? Price doesn't matter here, but I'd like to have long run times, what MAH batteries do you use?

I just put the Novak mongoose 9000Kv system in my Micro RS4. this is my first brushless system so I don't have any experience with the other systems mentioned but I have to say I am impressed with how well it runs. I am just running a 7.2v NiMh pack in it and it does really well. I think I may try to figure out how to drop in a 3s lipo in it and see how crazy it will be but for now the battery pack I have now does just fine. I need to get some foam tires for it as I can't keep it going in a straight line with the stock tires now. I wil say that if you go with the mongoose system you won't be dissapointed!

I like both the mamba and novak, I might even buy both haha, but put one other motor in an RC18! Also I was thinking rather than buying a front one way diff, that I remove the belt on the mrs4. How will removing the belt affect the driving?

if you get the mamba and have a little extra money to spend, i suggest the mamba micro pro + CM26 motor

These:

http://www.b-p-p.com/product.php?pro...&cat=39&page=1

I have the CM26-9200kv, it is as powerful or even more powerful as the Mongoose, but the mamba ESC has a better programming options.

That's a 20mm diameter can size. Try the 26mm can size if you could, everyone who try this bigger motor can including me like it ever better than then 20mm original size. They are two different motors rc18junky.

Here is my old photo. The one in the middle is the limited edition CM26-9200kv. The one the far right is the CM20-9600kv that you are talking about. So from the left to the right are... Mongoose 10T, Medusa 4-poles, CM26-9200kv, Xceleron 6800kv, then CM20-9600kv.

send me a link to it did not know they made them

The first link I replied to Tothemawfomprint, please check 3 posts above this one in this same thread. The 26mm can is great, the torque is crazy, and the larger motor size seems keep the temperature lower too, so I can gear a little bit higher. Either Mongoose or Castle CM26 would definitely beat out other 540 motor IMO.

Make sure you have at least a Mamba Micro Pro ESC to push it. I talked to Joe Ford from Castle, he said the 1/18 sidewinder probably too weak, but the MMP will do a better job. Check the second link I mentioned to, I think BPP has the best price MMP on the web so far.

If you got a MM to push it, sounds even better ! :D

Let us know how it goes, or shoot us some video like that recoil YouTube you sent but with your own recoil speeding down the road even faster !

@ Go-Zilla you got a sweet collection of motors there, do you still own them? Im leaning towards a mamba micro pro powered by 2-3c LiPos. I will definately keep up with pics and will post a video of the car running!

Here are some pics of my mrs4 setup. Chassis only since, well who wants to look at a stock motor and esc anyways... Also I cannot tell whether my chassis is carbon fiber or graphite can anyone confirm? Sorry for the crap radio, got ripped by my LHS when i bought that, and so depending on how much funds I have left, I will upgrade that to a Spektrum DX3!<div>http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/4442/photo17zy.jpg</div><div>http://i39.tinypic.com/24myh5w.jpg</div><div>http://i42.tinypic.com/no838p.jpg</div><div>http://i42.tinypic.com/hvqybq.jpg</div>
