Black Widows typically came with one open port per side. Early versions were SPI (Sub Port Induction) such as the ones we have for sale:

Later versions did not have SPI.

Thanks Bernie Did they make the SPI with the single fuel port and the double fuel port one each side. And what engines normally came with the 2 slit exaust port.

Instead of me going into a long tirade, have a look at this:

(scroll down 1/2 way) and it should answer your question.

I'm thinking no, on the hi-comp head.

If you play with the high compression head make sure you pick up some extra head gaskets. It is easy to end up with an overcompressed engine which can give you some odd starting problems (like the prop rocking back and forth sounding like a sewing machine and never turning a full revolution). Before there were black widows I used to put a TD piston and cylinder on my old golden bee engines...

The original Black Widows from back in the 70's came with the two exhaust port cylinders that were totally open. Only later due to that fire risk nonsense did the entire COX reed line switch over to the double slits.

I only set ONE on fire when I was a kid...

flying c/l on a black asphalt parking lot, on a hot day, and got a little carried away with the prime with the plug connected. I couldn't see the alcohol flames burning, but I did see the paint on the front of the airplane staring to turn back and crawl back towards the wing..

Blew it out, started the engine, and flew..
