Default Cox C/L Handle

Just thought I'd share these pics with ya. I recently aquired this new condition Cox Thimble Drome C/L handle at a garage sale. The family of a deceased modeler was selling a box of his old model junk and this was part of the deal. I had never seen one of these before. It has 2 internal spools to hold the string. I thought it was pretty neat and wondered if any of you guys have seen/used these before. How old is it?

I used one like that back in mid 60s. The two line winders lock separately so you can precisely center your two lines.

Memories. It worked well.

And all the fun trying not to fall over or puke from dizziness when you finished a flight. ;-)

Wow. Older than I thought. I haven't flown C/L for many years due to the reasons mentioned above. [:'(]

A 1/2A version of the U-Reely.. cool. I had one of those and although it was handy I guess for stowing the lines it was a clunky thing when you wanted it just to be a handle.

That is the Cox Skylon handle. I've used one for many years. They had two independent reels to adjust up and down lines perfectly to each model.

I still have the one I used as a boy in the 50s, I think they came out around 1953. Cox also made a larger version for the big models.

I got mine in the mid fifties also. Here's a pic of both sides.

And if I remember correctly, if you didn't get the clip lined up right, one of the lines would start to spool out mid flight! It was the poor man's 1/2A version of the Jim Walker U-Reely. Brings back memories

I still have mine from the Sixties, though it's in rough shape. I had a half sized Baby Flite Streak with a Pee Wee .020 on it, and would launch the model with one hand while holding the handle with the other, then let out line from the handle before the airplane wound itself around me!

I tried letting out more line with a U-Reely once...one line got to the end, the other didn't!! [&o] []

I never had the nerve to try that with a U-Reely!
