Default PLANS

Does anyone know of a good site that sells 1/2A scale plans?
Thanks

Guillows has plans and they throw in wooden templates, too.

What scale plans are you looking for in general?

My best source has been the R/C magazines.

If you give us a few ideas we might be able to point you in the right direction or possibly even have the plans we can copy.

RCM&E, Traplet.com etc have lots of plans. Here is another one with kits that are just the right size for glow; http://www.warbirdkits.com/kits.html

Funny with the Guillows templates, they are certainly hard enough to last for a few builds....

I am seeking trainer type plans in the Kadet style or possibly low-wing trainer types with 36" wingspans or smaller. Preferably stick-build and can be set up as either glow or electric. And I prefer to purchase them instead of downloads.

Although you have indicated that you would rather purchase plans, there is a sticky thread at the top of this forum called "Building and flying the LST trainer". It's an excellent flying plane, may be nitro or lekkie, and is a Kadet style highwinger. Plans are downloadable.

Thank you for that info. The only reason I would like to purchase the plans is because I only have a simple 8 1/2x11 printer and because it dont print big sheets it is difficult to print out different portions of a plan and accurately paste them together for the correct dimensions.

I will check out that LST trainer

The AMA and also RCM plan service has some interesting plans to look through.
The "Nickle" was a good 1/2A trainer for me.

The LST plan set is already tiled for 8.5x11 and is marked for assembly.

Here's a bunch:
http://www.airagestore.com/catalogse...lt/?q=randolph
Dave

Here is a link to the Flying Models Plans Catalog:

http://flying-models.com/catalog/catalog_rc.php

Or:
http://carstensbookstore.com/caflmopldi.html
and search on "Texaco" or "1/2a"

And some plans from my site, all good 1/2a easy flyers
and designed to print on letter size sheets:

http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/papillon.pdf
http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/Lil Tri Squire.pdf
http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/Lil Esquire.pdf
http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/Minnie Mambo-GeneRock.pdf
(I can see the spaces in the file names mess things up, so copy/paste into address bar...)

Home page may be easier, links to all:

I think 36 inches is really the lower limit for a 1/2A trainer using glow or diesel; my 1/2A trainer years ago had a 39 inch span, 290 square inches, and was just tame enough to learn on with a throttled Cox 049 and the mini radio gear of the time.

I second the Nickle, from AMA, by Randy Randolph. It would be my very first choice for a simple, attractive, and docile scratch-built 1/2A trainer. But I'm sure it's bigger than 36 inches...maybe 44 inches.

The old "1/2A Texaco" old timer designs are perfect for trainers. They were all stick built, but they typically run around 43 to 48 inch spans. Flying Models sells tons of them. AMA has the Kloud King reduced to 43 inches that would be very nice. They all came out around 16 ounces. With modern micro gear, a little less.

MAN sells plans for the "Kadetito" (or something like that) which is a mini Kadet, stick construction, right at the size you want. With micro radio gear you could make it a nice trainer with a TT 07.

Of course, with electrics you can go much smaller.

Hi,
As a flyer and often instructer I would go for the LST Trainer. I really like the old timers myself but would hate to bang something that nice around while training.
A Mini Mambo might be nice compromize.
